Back side pics of Ocarinas; Post pics of the back of your ocarinas

Post pics of the back of your ocarinas here. :)

The reason I'm making this thread is because I noticed that many ocarina makers and sellers don't display the rear side of their ocarinas on their websites. For example: Dinda Ocarinas shows the same front side of the ocarina in multiple pics; but just rotated upside down or something. When I look at ocarinas, I want to look at the voicing and size of thumb holes too. I think it's an important part of the ocarina buying decision making process.

I'll start:

They have a back side image of the Allegro on the Songbird website, but it's at an odd angle and you don't get a good view of the thumb holes and sound hole, which is why I included it.

It takes a larger amount of breath than most ocarinas. I'd compare it to something, but I don't have any ocarinas in my collection right now that are similar. Probably a Menaglio is the closest thing, in terms of breath requirements. It has a very breathy/airy tone. The high notes aren't too great, but sound better the more you warm up on the ocarina.

I'll be posting a few more when I get home too.

Don't worry about not having anything fancy, haha. Even a Focalink AC-A is good to show. I'm sure someone out there would find it helpful, since the back is not displayed on the Stein Ocarina website. :)

Having a very large voicing relative to the chamber makes the low end louder, but also creates a more 'noisy' tone which a lot of people seem to dislike. Being so large I would expect a poor top end, though this is not the case with all large voicings, if it is made a couple mm larger than typical, combined with a very open wind way (height), you are left with a very loud ocarina that takes a lot of air and has noisy tone, works best with sopranos. They work well in loud noizy settings like pub sessions, the soprano G I made for Jack is tuned this way.

A certain oversized hole voicings, solves the lack of consistency of the high notes. The important thing is not to overdo it. In the picture Tytoalba a 13 hole Alto C in comparison with a 12-hole Rotter.

I don't know, but I wish the mouth piece was angled. And then it would be much more comfortable to play and the voicings wouldn't look so separated.

This was a special gift from Kalasinar. <3
I think she may have gotten it at a Budrio festival. It's verrrry high pitched! My highest ocarina! It's the only ocarina I have that can hit Bb7. It actually has a couple more heart finger holes on the front.

Esther, if you use another website to host your image (like Flickr, Photobucket, Facebook, etc.), you can link to it with "img" or "URL" tag. Try quoting one of our posts that has pictures to preview how we are doing it.

Ok. With phone, I think the easiest way is to go to imgur.com and upload your image there. Afterwords, copy the web address and paste it here.

You can also upload pictures to this site (200K max) - that's a better option than using an external site because you know the picture will stay around as long as TON does and will be available whenever TON is.

Use the "Full Reply Screen" option to upload. Then you have to copy the link AFTER posting your message, from the bit at the bottom of the message that lists attached files, and you can paste that link into an image tag when re-editing your post. It's a messy process, I don't know why Zetaboards makes it so difficult.
