'Ollo everyone, I am Jill :hi: and it is my great pleasure to announce the first official photography contest for The Ocarina Network! :D

Posted Image

This is an exciting opportunity for ocarina players everywhere, especially for those of you who like to take pictures!
And all you have to do to enter is take a picture that shows your love for the ocarina!

:muse:

This may be a picture of you with an ocarina OR a picture OF your ocarina(s) in a creative and unique environment.
You may cosplay, use themes, adventure and travel, and so so much more.
Whatever you decide, because the sky is the absolute limit! :D

:focalinkpurple: To enter the contest:

  • You must be a registered member on TON. Sign-up is free.
  • Take a picture of you with your ocarina(s) OR a picture OF your ocarina(s) with a camera device.
  • Submit your photo to THIS thread with TWO IMAGES:
The original photo and then an authentication photo that contains the similar background(s), ocarina(s), person(s) or yourself used in the original photo, WITH your name written on a card.

This will help our judges to verify originality.

Original photo EXAMPLE (please click here)

Authentication photo / with name card EXAMPLE (please click here)

- :boogie: The Grand Prize wins: $100 USD :boogie:

- Second grand prize wins an ocarina from Dreambirth Ocarinas donated by Fred

Dreambirth Ocarina SOUND SAMPLE

- And three additional prizes will each win: $25

***All winners will be picked by the judges. Cash prizes shall be sent via PayPal. First place winner gets to decide between the $100 or the ocarina. ***

Our awesome judges and co-organizers for this event are:

~ Freddy Medina ~
~ Suki / Adriana ~
~ and Mark Chan ~

And I, myself, am your humble host. :D

~ The deadline to enter this contest is April 30th, 2013~

:aria: After the contest, all photos will be later featured in a collab video on YouTube to celebrate our love for music and to help raise ocawareness.
So whether you're entering for the pretty green stuff, the ocarina or just for fun, your photo will be included in the video and shared with the world!!!

So get the tripod out, the lenses wiped, the imagination workin' and those cameras a'snappin'! :)

Additional Info!

Only ONE entry per member will be accepted.

Photography background and other artistic experience is not necessary to enter the contest.
However, creativity and passion is strongly encouraged to compete for the prizes!
So try something new, go outside the box and, most importantly, have FUN :D

You are allowed to use ANY kind of device that is able to take a picture!

Photoshop, GIMP and all other photo editing software is definitely allowed.

We also allow for those of you without instruments to use ocarina apps such as Songbird and Smule!

RULES

Original work is a MUST.

No cheating, sock pupeting (making multiple user accounts to enter more than once) or PLAGIARISM of any kind will be tolerated... :brokenoc:

If it is proven that a photo is not your own work, it will NOT be judged.

Photos should also be FREE from sexually explicit and otherwise offensive content that would harm or insult any group of people.

As always, please respect TON's community guidelines for your safety and for everyone else's :)

We look forward to all the entries! Good luck, everyone!

Oohh, I couldn't play good enough to compete in the last contest (I was trying to learn Gummi Bears Them but fell short on time.) but I will definitely work on this one. With Spring settling in here in KS, I look forward to getting out and doing photography and now i get to try my hand at capturing the essence of Ocarina at the same time :-)

I was into photography when I was younger, I esspecially liked to photograph nature. I never had a proper equipment for this, and still don't. :C Though I never did it seriously. I can make a new topic and post a couple of my older photos, if anyone is curious to see my lack of skill. :D

We seem to be having a lot of contests....... aww heck! Since when is that ever a bad thing! :boogie:

If I could I'd have my dog sleeping in my lap and me snoozing against my sleepy horse with my Dragon Tooth in my hands.

I guess I played a song and we all fell asleep...... at least I'd do that If I could.

Yay! Another fun contest! :boogie:

A couple questions:
1. Can older photos be used or do we have to go take new ones?
2. Are video still photographs allowed?

1. I personally encourage you to take newer photos!! :D We'll see what the judges think as well.
2. Yes :) As said before, if it can take a picture, you are free to use it!

Edit: Newer photos are encouraged :) Have fun with an idea and go for it!

The lens matters far more than the pixel count in the final image quality. But realy what you use dosn't matter, think about composition and enviroment.

Will all small sensor cameras you need a lot of light, or a verry long exposure, to get a clean image. And don't use the built in flash. With glazed ocarinas don't use flash at all as it will wash out the reflections in glases and make them look flat.

Although this can be true its not completely. I use flash in all my ocarina images.

I believe Robert was referring to the built-in flash. Deer in headlight look, lol.
The only thing I can think of that the built-in flash is even good for is pre-flash to trigger other flashes.
Lol, I use flash on glazed ocarinas. ;)

Yes, you can do that too. I use that technique to trigger the slaves when the master can't get into the line of sight.

Mostly the issues I was refering to is described in the outher thread linked above. A glaze is basically a mirror and a lot of the intrest in there apearance comes from how they reflect there enviroment. This is easily overpowered if you use high powered directional lights like flash.

That's such a clean split right down the middle, Jeanne. The windway doesn't appear to be damaged.
Would you not at least try using a strong superglue, fix it up and use it as your beater/practice bass ocarina? Keep the newer Casper as your performance ocarina.

Yes, I know Kevin. Casper himself recommended that I try fixing the broken bass with some clear epoxy resin. He also asked me to hold off repairing it for now because he wants to file an insurance claim against the postal service for damaged shipment. He might need more pictures of the ocarina in case they ask.

Jeanne that's so sad :(

Mickji if you photographed the osawa then yes but remember you must turn in two photographs one displaying your name wi your subject in its final composition and one without.

So you would have to turn in one with your name photographed along the reference file of the osawa.
