Sound Cloud is a place where you can upload audio-only files. It is kind of like the audio version of youtube (sort-of). Here is the link: https://soundcloud.com/stream
Here is a Christmas song that I recorded with my Gosselink contrabass last night: https://soundcloud.com/rj924/noel-contrabass . Here is another: https://soundcloud.com/rj924/away-in-a-manger .

Nicely played, RJ. I'll continue the Christmas-related theme with these:

Auld Lang Syne
Instrument: Yamaha 300 series plastic alto recorder
Performance quality: Tolerable
https://soundcloud.com/endalion/auld-lang-syne

Is starting from G4 correct (done in the piece) in this one or should it be A4 instead (referring to first note only)?

Tonttu
Instrument: Focalink Tenor Seedpod in G
Performance quality: Tolerable
https://soundcloud.com/endalion/tonttu

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Instrument: Yamaha 300 series plastic alto recorder
Performance quality: Subpar

Here is another Christmas song that I recorded last night. It is the carol, "He Is Born", and is played on my Gosselink BC ocarina. I played it with a faster tempo than normal because I like the way it sounds. Here is the link: https://soundcloud.com/rj924/he-is-born

I have a Focalink bass C pendant that sounds smoky, like your contrabass. I think I prefer the sweet tone on on your Gosselink bass C.

I must look into getting one of them someday when I have cash reserves in my depleted bank account. :)

Here is another song I recorded last night. It is another Christmas song, and is titled, "Come Thou Long-Expected Jesus". I played it on my new 12 hole AC that I got from Hans Rotter. The bass is played on my Gosselink BC. Here is the link: https://soundcloud.com/rj924/come-thou-long-expected-jesus

Okay, here is the last one that I am going to put up tonight. It is a song that is fun to play and sing called, "Good Christian Men Rejoice." It was played on my Gosselink BC (I really love this ocarina!). I hope you enjoy it also. Here is the link: https://soundcloud.com/rj924/good-christian-men-rejoice .

Those sound great! The two ocarinas sound nice together, I love the sound of the Gosselink. You got a nice natural reverb from the room.

Finlandia hymn by Jean Sibelius, played with Focalink Seedpod (tenor G) ocarina.

Critisism and comments are welcome (no need to point out the fingering mistake at 7s, I know that already). I think this one turned out fairly decent, although there are small errors here and there. I'm kind of curious which ones are the detracting ones in other people's opinion.

This is something I did a few years ago for my final project in the first year of audio college.
It's not for everyone but it was a subject that I had never tackled and found wildly interesting. The subject was that of Chiptunes, i.e. 8-bit gameboy music.
So I ripped out the sound chip from and old Nintendo console I bought off ebay, programmed it to make the 4 basic sounds it can make and covered "Maybe Tomorrow" by Stereophonics by mixing chiptunes with real instruments.

Some of the TONians have heard this on TC already, but I thought I'd share it here. It was the first 'technical' thing I had done as an audio engineering student apart from operating mixers and the like.

Hai ^.^

So, this isn't my performance (yet) but before I even record a final draft, I really need to know...

Is this in the right key?! I'd appreciate an honest answer!

https://soundcloud.com/jill-theredhedgehog/dream-a-little-dream-on-muse

Also yes, I know I'm a liiiiiiiittle flat here and there and I frequently lose my articulation, but again, this is not my performance - I just need to know I'm playing it right XD But feel free to offer constructive criticism anyweez! Thanks! :D

LOVE that track, Achint!! :)

That sounds great Jillian. I have a slightly diffferent version of that song. Some of the notes are different in my sheet music. Here's the way I play it.

Thank you, Jillian. I feel you are a better player than I am so that means a lot. I was pleased my recording came out pretty decent. It's only the 5th or 6th sound recording I've made so far since I got my Blue Snowball.

I noticed I should have turned down the gain since I was getting squeaks on the high notes. And I still need to work on those Eb notes. Half holing on pendants is a bit tricky.

I'm looking forward to hearing your finished video. :)

I made an account yesterday to start posting my recordings :) feel free to give your comments :)

I've been experimenting with Ney Egyptian/South-East Indian tuning on my flute making these past couple days, and posted some of the results.

There is no excuse for sloppy recording especially from a highly trained sound engineer. Harumph! :monocle:

Actually, I liked it, Achint. It's such a pretty song. Your new Oberon ocarina sounds very nice. :)

Another random practice session, this time focused on breath control (which gets better in the middle) and using the subhole quickly and efficiently.

That was very nice, Achint. Ross' ocarina has a nice response to rapid passages. I sometimes get squeaking on my double octave 13 hole Soprano C when I play high notes in quick succession. I need to learn the sweet spot of how much air to give it.

Oh, don't mind my snooty comment about your recording technique. I was trying to be a pompous ass on purpose just to give you a hard time. I'm normally not so unsupportive. I hope this will push you to continue to excel. :D

It does have good response! I'm trying to get my finger to move quicker to the ornamentation better.
Haha, I don't mind. I'm much harsher on myself than anyone else, so really snoot on! It only helps me get better xD

Yea, I'm trying to do these pieces with specific goals in mind and keep doing them over the course of the day, taking breaks in between. :D

Yay! I always thought this song would sound charming on the ocarina and you have proven that to be true! Very nice playing. :) This is definitely on my to play one day list. XD

I don't suppose you have the sheet music for this, Jill? Pat Anderson wants to play this song with his wife as a duet and I think that is the cutest. (^v^)

I'm not happy with this performance, but this is the first recording I've made of it. I thought I'd put it up temporarily. I am playing a more complicated version of Greensleeves on my ICO Triple Bass. https://soundcloud.com/rj924/greensleeves

i would suggest trying some breathing exercises because you are a little wobbly, and you need to try to bring the ocarina closer to your body when you play high notes. this changes the angle of the air and gives you great sound, but other than that great work!

He's playing that on a pendant.
The trick you've mentioned (acute bend) is only necessary on some 12 hole Alto C's specifically.

This recording is pretty quiet, so you might need some earphones, or just turn up the volume on your speakers. I have a practice book published by Hans Rotter called, "Schule fur Ocarina" It is an excellent practice book, and I play through it quite often when warming up. I found a song that I like a lot and decided to record while playing my new ICO Triple BC ocarina. The name of the song is "Pulcinella" and seems to be subtitled, "Tarantella fur Ocarina". It is a fun song to play. Here is the link: https://soundcloud.com/rj924/pulcinella-tarantella-fur

Trying to find a popular song I can cover for my album, so this is the first one-take demo I recorded. It's of the Dylan/Hendrix classic, "All Along the Watchtower". If I go with this song, I'm probably going to use a better distortion. Please let me know what you think! (More info about the recording's technical details on the soundcloud page)

I'm not familiar with the original of this song, but I enjoyed your recording.

My suggestion would be to make sure the background instruments are full and interesting throughout the song. The melody line is a little bland (I'm assuming the original has words with the melody), so you need to compensate by increasing the complexity of the song in other ways. The sections with the guitar, drum, shaker, and ocarina worked well in my opinion. The sections with just minimal guitar and ocarina (like at the 4 minute mark) didn't have enough interest in my opinion. Perhaps you could write a more complex harmony line (non-parallel harmony) and record both lines on ocarina.

Thanks for sharing!

I tried to combine a recurring theme (a some kind of attempt to put the theme into ABC exist if someone is interested) and improvisation into song of sorts. Not sure how well this particular recording did it. Played with an alto recorder. There are some mistakes due to recording nervousness and such, hopefully those don't detract you too much. It failed to fully reach what it was supposed to be, both technique and emotion-wise. Recording is sort of a fabricated situation to play, so it is difficult to capture the feel and the best impro flows. So not the best work, but I'm not convinced that I'll manage to record the best work anyway, so here it is:

New Soundcloud today, will have a do-over, first time through oc is a little flat (read "I am playing a little flat"). but I do enjoy this this tune, Star of the County Down. Playing Night by Noble and Taylor GSMini, Audacity on my ancient (2006) iMac with Alesis Multimix 4 amd MXL 990 condenser mike. Can't blame anything on the equipment! Constructive criticism welcomed of course! Learned from YouTube by Orthodox Celts.

I randomly got a SoundCloud last month. The link to it is in my signature. I've only got one song on there at the moment; I'm not that great, and most of what I'll post on there will likely be obscure to most people here on TON, but you can listen to it if you'd like

The only song I have on my SoundCloud at the moment is called La La Lah. It's an old Lebanese song, originally sung by Wadih Al-safi; he's one of the biggest in the old generation of Lebanese singers. The backtrack I used is actually a modern cover of the song by the Lebanese singer/group Ibrahim Aqeel; they do modern takes on Lebanese folkloric songs. I just played my ocarina along to the mizmar solos in their song.

I hope you guys like it. If nothing else, I hope I at least taught you guys a little about Lebanese music ^_^;

I find myself humming the tune for sure, just like I did (still do) The Dark Island, the Rose of Tralee and half a dozen others! There will be a do-over for sure, get it all on key and fine tune the guitar part, at some point I want to make it the audio for a YouTube video. Just need time, which I will have more of after this year is over...as it stands right now, I only get to play more than a few minutes a day every couple of weeks, and frankly, my playing seriously regresses when I cannot get in enough play time.
