Do I have Faulty Subhole?; Focalink Alto C 12 hole

My Focalink Alto C 12 hole ocarina arrived, yesterday and I can't seem to play C# (using the middlefinger subhole, while letting go of the hole on the far right), unless I blow softer than I do with C (covering all holes).

Also, does anyone have a fingering chart?

The only one from Italy?
Alternate position for C#, cover all holes (not the subholes) and let the right pinky one half open. If you use subhole make sure your middlefinger is covering both his hole and subhole completely.

there is always time for a song

One day isn't a long time to have spent with an ocarina :)
It would be even more strange if the subholes worked perfectly from day 1.

If blowing a bit softer works, that's probably how it's done then lol. Try the other subhole (left middle finger) and see if it works any better.

I tried playing the lowest A by covering all holes, but it is extremely difficult, because I have to limit my breath too much and cannot keep it constant, so the sound is never stable.

esymptote, do you by chance have this Focalink 12-hole Alto C?

Spoiler: click to toggle

I have the same issue with mine. This particular design has sub holes which I consider much too small to be practical. If this isn't the ocarina you have, then could you specify where you bought it? Songbird, Focalink, Ebay?

Oh sorry, I bought it off of Songbird, but it's by Focalink?

On that ocarina, and most with japanese style sub holes, your index finger's subhole is dominant over the middle finger's, meaning you use it first. Try again with the left most (pointer/index) finger subhole instead, and post your results.

Many ocarinas that are type-2 (variable breath requirement) do require you to blow more softly for sub-tonic notes (notes that use sub-holes), and while that is usually for B Bb and A, sometimes it is with any subhole usage.
