Balance it so it is very slightly pointing downwards, and when you play high notes rest your right pointer finger on the center ridge with your thumbs next to the thumb holes, that should help you support it.

I'm very much against the "clutch crutch" (wrapping pinky and ring finger around any oc). Even though some players use the clutch crutch it's very limited in regards to good finger facility.
