It's hylandude!
|
Don't get me wrong i love my dragon tooth but today i woke up and i decided to play my dragon tooth and it sounded too flat. I turned on my computer and opened AP tuner and (with all the holes covered except for the sub-holes ) it gave me a B! Idecided to play the whole scale and not even a single note is on tune It was perfectly fine yesterday!!Thinking that it was probably my mic I decided to change the mic, it still gave me a B. Then i Compared it with my enigma i hate to say it but... the enigma was in tune (except for the sub-holes) I've tried different breath pressures and i have to overblow to get the notes right and i had no need to to that yesterday it's so wierd What's wrong with my DT?!

maybe the weather is to blame? ive heard cold temperatures can affect clay ocarinas! so that might be the cause!? have you tried warming it up? |

At her very beginning
|
did the weather changed drastically during the past days? I sometimes have this problem with my soprano g even though nothing changed. Sometimes a good cleaning helps, the windway and (if possible) the inside of the ocarina with a strip of paper to loosen everything and blow it out. but sometime it's like my ocarina had a bad day ^^ |

The weather and build up can both be a factor. Only so much one can do. Clean the ocarina, and try again. Watch the barometer, and try again. |

My ocs are affected by barometric pressure greatly. I went up to a local mountain and played on top of it yesterday and my normally great sounding Solist sounded like a crap First Note. I knew it was due to altitude though so I just ignored it. I played the same oc today at work and it sounded great again, didn't even clean it in the interim. As for DT specific, it seems to be extremely sensitive to temperate due to the ratio of internal surface area to internal volume being much different than most ocs. |

I actually noticed issues this past weekend where I took my ocs outside in the wind, and just the slightly different pressure from wind blowing on the outside of the oc totally changed how they sounded. I guess our ocarinas are just a bit more finicky than we thought. |

lol, the first thing that came to mind when I read the title was "Take it to the dentist" ![]() But anyway, I get flatness that when my ocarinas are not warmed up. Try warming it up with either your breath or warming it with your body. And just *maybe* you could possibly be playing it with a bit gentler breath across the range? I'm 1000000000% sure it's not the weather yesterday we were at 25°C and today at 26° i don't think there's a lot of difference. I emailed Jesus about it (the guy that takes care of Sonbird oc's orders and all that stuff) and he told me that he fowarded the e-mail to Mr songbird so he can come up with a solution. EDIT: i got an email from Jesus telling me that there might be an obstruction on one of the holes. After checking it I saw a small clay bump covering half one of the subholes. here's an image but i wonder why it affected the sound until now

Perhaps.. the lump of clay has softened since you've played it, and it's expanded a little to actually make a difference in the sound? *shrug* Is that even possible with fired clay? Moving this to the right place. |

Yayy i just found the right tool for removing that bump of clay!!.... a flexible pencil, the side where the eraser is placed is hard enough to remove the bump and it wont damge the inside of the ocarina I can't remove the bump >_< Edited by hylandude123456789, Mar 17 2010, 04:58 AM.

If you are having trouble with that Dragon Tooth ocarina, let us send you a new one for exchange, that is unless you are utterly attached to that one. In that case, we can try to repair it. |
