I know who the benefactor is! I want a prize! :jumpy:

I... Can't bear to read all the entries, at least not in one sitting in the morning, but congrats to the people who've won and all of you who gave me mention in your entries are invited back to my blog later today for cookies and booze.

I can't believe I missed this!

Congratulations to Prism, Walden and Ivanduzer! And special congrats to HieronRemade, who beat me fair and square! :TON: Once again, it's an awesome composition. You deserve the win!

I also have to say I love 17color's composition, and I don't know why I missed his entry before.
I put links to all composition entries at the end of my video. :)

I still have to read all the essays and poems. There are so many that I'll save the fun for when I have more time.

I'd just like to recognize 17colors! When we judged the compositions, we used a 10 point scale, and 17colors was .5 away from tying for first place! As soon as I judged your entry I had to subscribe!

Congratulations to all, the wins were very well-deserved. There were many great entries, so nobody should feel too much disappointment for not winning. And keep trying! As said by James D. Finley, "nothing encourages creativity like the chance to fall flat on one's face". And luckily, nobody in this contest did so! This contest was simply practice for the impending one that you finally will win, right? :3

Aww... I was hopin' for that chocolate oc!
I had made this around the time you had that thread discussing the chocolate advent calendar, and it was all I could do not to mention that I did, indeed, have a chocolate ocarina...:)

Yah I also thought 17colors' composition was pretty awesome, if he posts sheets/MIDI I might learn it! I also thought that if Moomaster came up with some accompaniment that his song was pretty awesome.

On another note...I know who the donator is! :evillaugh:

Yeah, 17colors had a really amazing song! I'd really like to hear anything else he might compose!

I just finished reading all of the poems!

There were some pretty good ones. I really liked the ending of Moomaster's poem. It was so sad.

Walden's were very well crafted!
Goose's might have even included a line such as "and one ocarina to rule them all."
HieronRemade's was pretty good as well.
Junfanjohn's was entertaining and funny.
I liked the shape of Verstand's.
Luis Echevarria 111's were quite good and very creative!
Vermin's was very interesting.
Virtuso-007's had good imagery.
mewichigo03's was a fun story.

And the craft entries were all very creative. Those cardboard tube ocarinas look like they might be fun to make. And of course, the chocolate ocarina was amazing! I probably wouldn't be able to eat it either.

I liked it, too. Still my favorite, I think, along with the Hymn of the Leaves by Spencer...

edited because I just can't make up my mind - I like them all!

While watching the video it also made me feel like learning the song. And the piano part doesn't seem too hard to figure out by ear. I might learn it... and maybe even make some small additions to the piano part to match my personal style. :)

If I were Walden, I would feel really cheated. =/

He earned both those prizes. There were no rules anywhere that said you can't win multiple categories.

I am very happy with the single prize. The judges could have just quietly made the decision to choose the runner-up for one category as the winner, but instead they gave me the honor of being known to have come in first in both categories that I entered. I am glad Ivanduzer is getting the other double ocarina. This way four people share the joy and not just three. I especially want to thank the generous benefactor for a beautiful ocarina that is well outside of my price-range.

Felicitations to the winners! You guys gave us quite a headache when trying to pick the clear winner.

I have to say though, my personal favorite for essay was Nimue's entry. I pulled hard for that one because I really like that type of writing style. :D You get shadow's seal of approval!

Oh, Shadowyi. Thank you.
The talent on this site both humbles and excites me. You people are amazing. Thanks for even letting me in the joint.
Congratulations, all.

I assume there will be at least one other contest before the end of the year. Last year a contest was held for TON's first anniversary.

@Hieron: Great to hear you're having fun with your prize! :) Give it a little kiss for me, will ya? :nudge:

I got mine today!!! YEAH!! I LOVE it! I'm so happy I have an ocarina that plays the whole range :)

I truly hope this helps me with making my own. I noticed a few things right away that are different than my own - namely the size of the airway and the size of the voicing hole. Hopfully I'll get a chance to try fixing that soon, and see how things go.

Thank you!!

Debbie

edited to add: I think the focalink ocarina is beautiful sounding - no airy notes, not hurting the ears, and it really is a lovely shape...absolutely in love :)

Thank you Sam for being a great organizer and judge (not to mention a great humanitarian)

&

Thank you Walden for the compliment.

I also want to thank all the contestants for all the fine (and I mean really fine) entries. It was a real treat to see how much talent (loads) is here on TON.

Many thanks to all the judges. A very difficult task was undertaken but the judges came through with flying colors. Good show!
