Alot of people like those too! And others like the Noble doubles. I'm not sure anyone owns all three however!

From what I gather, the Maparam is slightly nicer sounding, but the focalink is cheaper. The Noble, I am unsure about.

people who own a noble say that they have an exelent sound, and many prefer it's fingerings where you have a thumb hole for the 2nd chamber, instead of a double hole

I'm that guy, remember?
I can also vouch for the MapAram being an absolutely amazing double ocarina. But focalink has very good single and triple ocarinas, I can't say about their doubles as I have yet to own one (5 days till a double sop G come my way((I hope)))

I absolutely love my Focalink Double Alto C! Zack Shih really has an amazing product here!

Once you get used to playing a multi-chambered ocarina, it's an absolute joy to play :) Well, it was always fun, but it was more fun once I wasn't worried about dropping it :D

The Focalink Double Alto C is very easy to play. Transition between the chambers is very smooth, the tone is at medium level and is very easy to work with. Considering the price, I'd really recommend it.

I certainly agree. All 3 of these doubles have their own unique sounds. I have all 3 in multichambers. The one I use most is the Focalink, next is the Map, and then the Noble. Which one I use depends on the music I'm playing at the time. The Focalink tone just happens to fit (in my opinion) more of the music I play.

Those are probably your 3 best brands right there: The Focalink, the Maparam, and the Noble.

Solist/Bon makes good doubles too from what I hear.

I have an older WPN Double, and I like it plenty. Sure, it's subholes are harder to make use of, but it once I learned how to do it on THAT ocarina, it was all cakewalk.

I'm sure that those top 3 would be much easier to get use to than a WPN. So I'd go with one of those 3. do note, Maparam is expensive, while Focalink and Noble are less expensive and still of very good quality.

Does anyone offer a plastic double? I am too hamfisted to own clay.

Out of the main brands, my personal ranking of the doubles would be, from least favourite to most favourite;
WPN (STL) --> TNG (STL) --> Focalink --> Noble --> MapAram

... This make it look like I don't like Focalink. I love Focalink, but I'm not absolutely in love with either the Noble or Focalink's sound, and I prefer the Noble's fingering. With MapAram on the other hand, I love the finger and I adore the sound. I would go for the one you like the sound of best, and if nothing stands out to you, look at fingering charts and think about which one you would prefer to play.

Thanks for all those answers. I think i'll buy the Focalink.

Should i buy it on Songbird Ocarinas or the Focalink Website ? Is the packaging content the same ?

Either way you'll end up with essentially the same ocarina (One cosmetic difference, Focalink doesn't put the Stein logo on the ocarinas they send Songbird). Also, there won't be that much of a difference in shipping time if you order from Songbird, however I do believe that if you're in the US the shipping is cheaper from Songbird.

I've played both a Maparam and Focalink, and I can say that both are excellent ocarinas, and you will not be disappointed.

Out of all the doubles I've tried, (Maparam, Focalink and TNG), I still prefer the TNG Purple Clay Double which STL sells. It has great ergonomics, a very good tone, and the transition from the first chamber to the second is very smooth. It's a great ocarina for most of the music I play.

I'm sure any of these brands would be a good choice - it just comes down to personal preference. Not as many people here have tried the Purple Clay double, so it isn't as popular, but it is a great ocarina too.

If you are buying a Focalink and you live in Europe, i would suggest buying directly from Focalink. When i bought my Focalink Double Alto C from Songbird in the US, shipping was delayed because customs took a liking to it, and i then had to pay more money to have it delivered to me. When i bought a Focaink Triple direct from Focalink, i suffered no delay or charge. Obviously customs charges are random, and entirely not the fault of the seller, however i have found that i get charged a lot more on things coming from the US (i live in England) than i do for things coming from Asia.

I think you'll be really pleased with the Focalink Double if that is the one you're decided upon. Maparam would be my second choice to Focalink, i should in fact be recieving a Maparam Double SF very soon. But as of yet, i cannot compare the two makes. Personally i doubt anyone could go wrong getting the Focalink :)

ooh, just to add to what Kalasinar said, When I bought my focabird from songbird, I asked them to mark it as a 'gift'. This results in the customs having to ignore it as a viable source of import duty and grudgingly send it on ;)

I'd second that. If something comes from Asia, it has to be a cheap toy. At least that's what the custom-ers seem to think, and so they let it pass more often than something coming from the States.
