Good luck everyone. I was gonna submit a composition, but then saw a couple others and realized I would just be embarrassing myself with my humble little tune. All I have is my netbook anyway, not a goo recording setup. Looking forward to hearing and seeing and reading the entries! Maybe next year I'll be on a level to be worth entering. |

Netbooks have small microphones, and small microphones tend to be good for recording flutes. They tend to be bad at recording high amplitudes, so you may have to get far away from it. I'm currently in the process of making a wooden inline ocarina. I'm going to use my mother's netbook which I found to be excellent to use for tuning flutes. There is an "E301 Flute Tuner" somewhere on the inernet. |

I'm sorry to bug you, sam, I just wanted to make sure that the e-mail arrived, wouldn't be the first one to disappear - I know I won't win, but it would be bad if the entry doesn't arrive |

I hope to win to, but I guess everyone wants to win. But winning is not the main idea, it's about participating, right? RIGHT ?Warning! Failure at trying to convince oneself detected! Do not try to convince yourself! Just a lame geeky self-humiliating joke, please ignore it |

Yes, and I think that a rushed judging process would be less fair than one where they took the time to properly weigh all the entries. |

To be fair, most contests DO have a deadline that states when the contest will be judged by/on. If we had a date, we could be more patient ![]() I entered a contest that went over 9 MONTHS before they judged it...and that was with me pestering them after the first 6 months...yeah, I know! (it paid off, though...I knew I had a fair chance of winning, and I did) Deb |

Yah I would really appreciate even a rough idea of how long it will take! I don't want the judges to feel like we're all being ungrateful jerks and pushing them though. Just a ballpark figure on the ETA would be awesome. |

The results date is unofficially 19th Jan (because I'm leaving for Cambodia on Jan 20th). But it should be around then, hopefully not much later. There are a LOT of poetry and essay entries to go through. I spent one night on it, and was not able to get through half the poems They're just such great works! We may need to invite a few guest judges to help us out due to some judges being away at this time. Yes, especially considering the huge amount of poetry entries Sam mentioned. Poetry can easily have some sort of deeper meaning, so a rushed judging could overlook that and miss half of what makes the poem special. In theory people from one section of the contest could judge for another too. E.g. people who entered for Essay Writing could judge for the Poetry contest. But then I guess there should be a way to prevent them from viewing the judging of the contests that they entered themselves. If this should work I would be happy to help with judging anything but the Performance and Composition contest. (That's the one contest I entered.) |
