As outlined on this topic: In need of 200 ocarinas, I am going on a charitable mission trip to Cambodia for two weeks with a Korean Christian team of youths called Hosanna Sydney. One of my tasks there will be to teach the ocarina to the children and teachers there, so that they may benefit from the joys of music.

Mr. Zack Shih from Focalink has agreed to supply the ocarinas at a truly generous price. I will be taking 200 of his newly designed plastic 12-hole Soprano C ocarinas to Cambodia.

TON members have offered to donate towards this cause, and I have hence made this Paypal donation link to TON's account:

Posted Image

Current Donation Level: $320
Cost of 200 ocarinas: $800

Donations made to that link will be used towards this event.

Thank you very much for your support, and a special thank you to Focalink and the other ocarina companies* that also responded to my emails and offered to lend a hand!

UPDATE: Here are the ocarinas:

*Other companies that offered help- Mountain Ocarinas, Ted's Do Re Me, Noble Ocarinas, Zin Ocarinas, bokdung2, TNG ocarina

Is there any reason you would not want us to send this link to other people who might want to make a donation? I was just about to put it on my facebook page and e-mail it to some people, then I figured I should at least check in case there's some reason you wouldn't want me to do that.

This is such a fantastic idea :D Would you mind telling us the cost per ocarina and how much you need to raise? Updates on the fundraising would be awesome, too.

Freerice.com does that too, but with food XD I love that site and I love this idea even more because music can bring so much hope to people. T.T *all tearied eyed*

Aw, lots of warm fuzzies for Sam right now! :D You should make a vid and put the link in it, that's a method to get the word out to a wide audience quickly.

Thanks for the idea David!

I initially didn't think there would be this much support by the members in donating (I set it up because several members said they were willing).

Mr. Shih discounted the cost per ocarina to $4 each, and he'll cover the shipping expenses.
So that's $800 USD

If the donations could cover a good fraction of that target, I think it would be very meaningful :)

I'll put up status updates at the opening post in this thread when we reach a certain point.
I'm also going to make a short video on Youtube about this.
Ok, I just uploaded a video :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dV-BHWl_sEM

Would be appreciated if you could spread this video or feature it at your channel :D

I think I will start making videos so that I can try to get extra publicity for this fantastic event!

Hopefully I will be able to make a donation for this! Are you aware of any ways to donate without using paypal(I don't have one myself) or credit cards?

Aww thanks for the support.

Hmm.. I don't know about how else you could send a payment.
Could you encourage your parents or someone you know who has paypal credit card to lend a hand?

If you have a bank account, you can set up Paypal quite easily in minutes.
If you don't have a bank account, you can set one up at the bank quite easily in minutes too :)

I guess you could do a wire transfer to my bank account, but I am unfamiliar with how that works.

I paid for one ocarina, I cannot afford more. :(

Sam, can you show us a picture of these ocarinas, please? I'm very interested to see what kind of ocarinas will the children learn to play. They're Focalinks, so I'm sure they're going to be great.

I haven't seen the Focalink plastic SC yet. Mr Shih. is sending me one in advance to have a look. I'll take photos and perhaps make a review and video then.

In the meantime, I'll ask Mr. Shih if he has any photos :D

You can pay with your credit card via PayPal, you don't even have to have a PayPal account. Look to the left on the donation page where it says:

"Don't have a PayPal account?
Use your credit card or bank account (where available). Continue"

Hello to all of you!
Took me a bit of time, to read thru all this mails- mostly nighttime- when I am come back from the workshop- to your questions about Fokalink new Plastic Ocarina- I am one of the lucky one, who have already one of them- and I can tell you- its sound better, than the most clay Ocarinas I heard until now- and I have a lot of this clay Ocarinas from all arround the world, in our Ocarina-Museum- You can be shure, thats very good quality, like all the latest standard of Fokalink Ocarinas- Many Greetings Hans

The ocarinas have come in today!

(sorry I didn't take the photos of the individual ocarinas because they're all so neatly arranged by colour in their individual boxes. We're gonna take them straight to Cambodia in this organised state, and so I didn't take them out of their boxes)

If one child missed out they would... Besides, Sam already has one, and you already have a Woodsound, why would you need a plastic?

Donations from TON members covered $320 :)

I am very grateful for this. The money has been transferred to be used for this cause.
I leave on Jan. 20th. Hopefully I'll be able to take lots of pictures and video of the work there.

Thank you so much everyone!

Yes, there is funding from other sources. This team is quite organised - you can't go overseas to do stuff if you're not ready with the money.
The donation through TON has been of big assistance :D
