A brand does not become sought after until it is proven in the marketplace, right? Panch Ocarina defies the norm. From viewing the care put into the few Panch Ocarinas they've been privledged to see, ocarina enthusiasts have largely decided that one belongs in thier collection. After hearing from Panch that his ocarinas will be available by Christmas, I felt it is high time they have thier own place in Regional Focus. Panch started making the ocarina in 2007, about nine months after he recieved his first one. Finding that he had a gift for making ocarinas well, he sold his first one at age 18 to a local in his town, and quickly developed a following. Thus far his ocarinas have only been sold or given offline, though a few people on TON do own one. Panch would have released his instruments to the world quite a while ago, but the high standards of quality he has set for himself have repeatedly caused him to delay the release of his products - although this hasn't stopped him from selling the odd ocarina now and then when he's particularly strapped for cash! Each Panch ocarina is handmade by him, and features an organic look, into which he has built the features neccesarry for a pristine sound. Furthermore, Panch has an eye for design and an innovating mind, and many if not most Panch Ocarinas will feature an element that expands what the ocarina can do. His site, Panch Ocarina is under construction, but his ocarinas will definitely be available for purchase in the VERY near future. [edited to include first sound sample/video of final release Alto C] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDEOs_hpqVg (watch it in 480p for better sound) mp3: http://www.esnips.com/doc/45de3f41-5592-48ca-b000-0269f657704d/blessing-song2 Edited by kissing, Feb 26 2010, 01:22 AM.

They'll be available by Christmas! So, in time to get one shipped by Christmas or available to order by Christmas and probably be received in January? Either way is exciting! |

Ooh, I didn't hear this Christmas thing. Awesome! All of Panch's ocarinas are beautiful, and I don't find myself attracted to any of the other OoT replicas out there (though there are some nice ones, I'm just not interested), I definitely want one of Panch's, though. -bookmarks site- Besides which, all of his other ocs are similarly amazing. |

Hey Panch, quick question - are you still doing just alto C's at this point or do you have a range of er...ranges? I need to give it some more time, but I think the holes on the second chamber of my new Focalink Double SG are too close together for me to play, so I may be in the market for a 12 hole Soprano C, and if you're making them I'd almost for certain get one of yours. |

Well, initially I'll be selling ACs, but I'll be developing more ranges to release in early 2010 or sooner. I'll be trying to release new keys in pairs (like, I'll be releasing the soprano C the same time as the bass C, etc.) Unfortunately, I plan on releasing the soprano G and alto G next.

Two quick questions: 1) Are you only going to sell them via auctions on eBay or will there be an option to get it for a fixed price (like Buy It Now or on the website)? 2) Are you going to accept custom orders, like the key it's tuned in, is it type 1 or 2, some colour options, etc.? Thanks for the reply

I know you're not going to like it, mate, but these are being auctioned initially. Due to me producing only very limited amounts of ocarinas, I see two options. Either I put them up as buy -it-nows, and have the few people in advantageous timezones snap them up cheap, or I have them as auctions, which at least allows for everyone a fair go. I'm not nearly as famous as Spencer is, so they'll probably go cheap anyway. Once I have them available on my site, I'll look into allowing custom types and keys, but until I make a formal announcement of it, consider the service unavailable. As for color... I'll be experminenting with glazes... so we'll have more color choices later on, too.

I'm in no hurry. Just take your time and establish a nice and profitable business. I'm sure you'll soon become very popular and there will be a relatively large demand for your ocarinas (especially those accurate Zelda ocarinas with Australian fingering system). When you're going to be able to do it, I'll definitely order a custom 12-hole type 2 (rising breath) alto in D from you. Next year, or in the next 5 years time - it doesn't really matter (although, obviously, I would rather have it sooner than later ).

You know, I think an ocarina in the key of Eb might be nice as well. The reason being, for alto saxophone players, it would be nice. I've got a ton of sheet music in Eb already, and sure, I could use my saxophone to play it, but it would be fun on an ocarina as well. That is, if you're already going to eventually make them in Bb, you might as well add Eb. But don't feel any pressure to do so because I don't know how popular that option would be. |

Well the thing with the Bb Panch I have is that it wasn't actually intended to be tuned to Bb. He was experimenting with how to get a good tone, and I just noticed it happened to be close to Bb tuning and called it thus. His initial models will probably be in C, but lets see if we can convince him otherwise if there is enough popular demand for other keys like Bb ![]() It really is a convenient key to have an ocarina in! |
