That is strange. My friend also received calls on his phone in Spanish saying "You have won $1,000. Press 1 to claim your money". The strange thing was that on his phone, it showed up as his friend's number, but it did not give him the usual ring tone that he assigns for when his friends call. |

I can tell you what happens. Ever accept a billing charge electronically by pressing a single button? Ever pay for an online service (Or heard of one) that has the option to pay through SMS or calling? Same setup, just without asking permission first. Also, I'd be very wary about making jokes on these kinds of lame attempts. There are many people out there who are not very internet savvy. My best friend's grandmother is still convinced she has exactly 39 viruses on her computer just because a pop-up add told her she did. (You know, the ones that "find" the viruses and then expect you to buy their uber leet awesome virus removal tool) We tried explaining to her that it was all a scam, but she won't budge due to the fact that her computer acts really sluggish, crashes occasionally, and well.... ok she has a bunch of viruses... but we can't seem to get her to understand that it's only because she trusts crap like that.
