We should get an ocarina and send it to all of the members and have them take a picture or a video with it and after they do that they send it to the next person on the list. If we were to do this I think we should do a Zelda replica and have us dress up like Link when we take the picture/video. Don't forget to wash it.

Haha, kind of neat idea, but what happens when one person says "oh cool, free ocarina" and decides to keep it? |

I'm pretty sure one of us will end up keeping it...my guess would be the first person it ships out to. |

Maybe we can paypal a deposit to a moderator. Then when the next person gets the ocarina, you get your deposit back. |

actually it's quite expensive to ship it overseas. And considering the main base of members are all over the place it would be expensive. |

That is true. Haha, so what we would really need to make this work is a map of the locations of everyone who wants to participate so we can minimize shipping by sending to the nearest person. Sounds like a lot of work. |

Weird that you brought this up! I was just thinking about this same concept the other day! Seriously! It's a sign! So here's a way to solve some of the issues that may arise: 1.) We'll need to make a contract. It will have to be signed electronically. On it, we must have a limit as to how long each person gets to keep the ocarina (say, 30 days or so, for example.) 2.) Germs do spread, and it will be the RECIPIENT'S responsibility to wash the mouthpiece before playing the ocarina. 3.) We'd have to make a list of what order the ocarina will be shipped. Yes, overseas shipping costs can be high, so it would make sense that someone who can afford it should be the one shipping out of their country. For example, I have a slightly steady income, and chances are I would be able to pay for overseas shipping more likely than a 8 year old ocarinist who only gets a 3-dollar allowance every week. Therefore, we should have a list of who will send it to who. 4.) What if someone breaks it on accident? Well, that's an unpredictable thing. Ocarinas break, and some could break easier than others. It's just a risk that everyone who participates will have to be willing to take. We'd have to be sure to be responsible with this ocarina. Meaning: Don't take it out with you in public. Play it only over soft, secure surfaces. Common sense stuff. Anything else that needs to be covered?

How about finding some way to pose a gnome with it, while taking a picture with the gnome Colbert-style? Or just gnome, since that would be Amelie meets Zelda. |

An ocarina Round-Robin sounds great! But even small ocarinas can cost a lot to post- here in the UK percels cost more if they're bigger too (lots of padding and a sturdy box needed). Alot of folks here don't have much money ![]() Also there's little to stop someone just keeping it and saying it must have got lost in the post. How about something light, that can be shipped in a jiffy bag, and doen't cost much? A silly TON hat? We could make vids of ourselves wearing it! Or a hama-bead medallion, or a silly t-shirt? Something unique, so that when someone's watching on youtube, they notice that all these people are wearing this weird thing! If it was just a regular ocarina people might not notice the connection between the vids.

A PAIR OF JEANS! wait... that's been done... That's it: We'll build a ship out of plastic bottles and twigs. We'll sail the seas and cross great barriers so that we can all be shipmates! We'll even go whale watching in the Arctic regions! ...Wait, whale watching is like wait for water to boil... we'll just play pirate tunes on our ocARRRGGHinas!

I think DeepRed's suggestions of a medallion or silly hat would be best, since they would be cheap to ship, and you don't have to worry about different people's sizes and all. The round robin thing would totally get a fire under me to forget all my shyness and get on with doing a recording. I think a triforce would be either the greatest or worst design. Maybe someone with skill in working with these beads and things could wait for the mascot contest to be over, and we could do something with that. |

I think the shirt, hat, and mask ideas are all great...or maybe a combination? I was thinking, it'd be hilarious if we all made a video wearing a fake beard and a hat (maybe with TON on it), but to make us look like Giuseppe Donati...you know, like from this picture: Spoiler: click to toggle

I still like the ocarina idea. Every time I hear a performance, I wonder about the sound what should be attributed to the ocarina and what should be attributed to the player. It would be neat to see what everyone can do with the same oc. It would definitely require some sense of community and cooperation. |

There has to be a way to make sure no one steals it. It would be no fun to just have a couple peope do it and then the ocarina disappears. |

What about the deposit idea I suggested earlier? 1. Person A paypals deposit to moderator 2. Moderator sends ocarina to the Person A 3. Person A makes video 4. Person B paypals deposit to moderator 5. Person A sends ocarina to Person B 6. Moderator returns deposit to person A 7. Person B makes video 8. Person C paysl deposit to moderator 9. Person B sends ocarina to Person C etcetera. |

Hmmm... Sounds interesting, I like the the idea of each of us making a video playing something stupidly simple and passing it on and uploading the video's up to one person who mash em together handing the ocarina off to one side of the video at the end and reaching for it from the other side when you get it... ie passing it on... hows that sound? dave |

I couldn't be bothered with deposits either. It would have to be the honor system, like the the vegetable stands that I've bought from in Japan, Korea, and the US. About shipping, we would have to work out a sequence for sending it around within each country, before sending it to the next country, so the shipping would make more sense. Each user would send an extra dollar or so to be kept with the ocarina for the one who would have to send it overseas. About the music, I don't agree on a set song. There is no one song that fits everyone's style or personality. I don't want to play something stupidly simple either. It would be neat to see the differences that come out of the same instrument. You should hear all the people at my college talking about it. They're all considering going home if Swine Flu enters the states, to which I've responded "it's not as if one of the best med schools in the country is walking distance from where you sleep". I'm not really worried about the Swine Flu, but if an oc was going between people, I would clean it when I got it, just as I clean my own when I share them with friends. No need to catch swine flu or Epstein Barr. |
