Hi, I am Joe and I'm a composer in m spare time who plays guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, and have recently added recorder flute and ocarina to the list. I'm practicing and at various stages of badness on all instruments. I feel you play and instrument as long as you play it badly. If you are trying then you are doing, so long as you don't claim to be doing well. I'm pretty good at figuring out songs by ear and translating tabs from one instrument to another so I'm planning on making some ocarina tabs. I got the idea to make them and the link to this forum from Foxxy Rin. I'm also talking with Guitar Tracks Pro software authors about adding the 12 hole ocarina as a tab their software can handle, though I have low hopes since I've never had a great reception from a big company. I'd like to read other peoples posts about ocarina playing, tabs, and whatever else. I'm also into tons of other hobbies like distance bicycling, distance rollerblading (not in a while), all sorts of music stuff, old videogames, computer programming, fixing my own car, chemistry, creative writing, baking/cooking, aikido, scrapping, movies, scenic sight seeing, brewing, sleeping in. |

Hello all, my name is John, I am a member of the US Air Force and am currently stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson AZ. I used to post some time back on OU, but it seems as though not much goes on on that forum anymore. Oh well... I have been playing the ocarina for about five years now, although I dont get much opportunity these days to play i still like to think im a fairly decent musician. of all the kinds of ocarinas i prefer to play the 11 hole transverse. |

I managed to forget about introducing myself. Somehow. Anyways! I'm Paikyu, also known as Shujin in some circles, and I consider myself an aspiring "jack of all trades." I play the violin primarily but I have dabbled in drums, about to take formal piano lessons, dabbled in guitar adn the two stringed Erhu. I do own a Peruvian eight hole ocarina (given as a gift) and I had been tootling away on it long before I knew what it actually was. Needless to say, once I found out that it was "ocarina" and not some weird flute/pipe thingy I felt rather dumb but also interested in the bazillion other ocarina types that I was finding out about. I ordered a 12 hole sweet potato from Focalink and hope to soon be playing along with the rest of you! |

Hey guys, I'm Scoon and I've never played Zelda. There, I said it :P Basically I became interested in the ocarina after recently re-watching The Dark Crystal. I have always been captivated by the main character's 'double flute' so to speak. I searched high and low and the best I could find was an medieval instrument known as a double flageolet. Finally came across Hind Ocarinas and fell in love with the sound of the double. Didn't fall in love with the price tag though :P (Why are they so much more expensive?) Anyways, I've seen there's lots of videogame/japanese inspired songs out there. I'm not a big gamer, but I was brought up with a lot of classical music in my education. So I'll be posting heaps of classical stuff in the future. ![]() See ya Edited by Scoon, Sep 16 2008, 10:11 AM.

Oca-Rocker - Don't mess with me, I'm Pro. 0_0
|
YOSH! I'm Kalin5513, but you can call me Alex. I'm new to the ocarina, but not new to music in general. I'm 21, and have been musically involved since I was about 12. I had small music experience in elementary school, mildly playing the violin and the recorder. But when I was 12, I picked up the trumpet, which is where I learned the basis of music. By 14 I picked up the drums. That's what I play the most now, and I am sad to say I have not touched my trumpet in about a year and a half :(( . About a month or so ago, I came across DJ4 on youtube, and he re-sparked my interest in music. Today, I got my first ocarina. It's a 12 hole from STL. I know there are better out there, but it's a good start for not ever really playing an ocarina before. It's a lot harder than it looks. But anyway. I will probably be a frequent person on this site, trying to learn as much as I can about the Ocarina, and meet new people who also play it. I have a youtube channel, and a link to it will be in my signature. I hope when I get better I can upload some videos of my playing the ocarina. ^^ Edit: I know DJ4 has caused a lot of problems to the people of this board. I may not know everything that happened, but I hope that thinking that some of the things he does are good won't alter opinions about me. We are all musicians, and I believe that is what should matter the most. I know how hard it is to hold grudges about forums. I know people who have stooped to that level, and it is sad. Maybe the future will hold better for everyone? Edited by Kalin5513, Sep 18 2008, 08:50 PM.

Hey i'm Mike and i live in North Caroilina. I started playing the ocarina surprisingly by a related video that had one of kissing88' videos. I was looking up the flute and then that came up. I then developed a quick interest in the ocarina and bought a Songbird tenor pendant. Then all from Songbird, Eaglebone, Sweet Potatoe XL, extended range fairy. I purchased a double from STL but i was dissapointed with it as there were some notes that wouldn't play. :(. But i got pretty good with it despite the fact that some notes wouldn't play. The main thing is that i learned how to switch between the two chambers smooth without pause. And without playing playing the chords on accident. But other than that i am currently saving up for a Maparam Triple ocarina. My dad says that i have spent enough money on ocarinas so he will onley let me get one more. But i am still looking to get a Focalink Double bass C and a Focalink Double soprano G. I will probably have to sell my others to get that but well see what happens. I will start posting vids and what not once i get the Maparam Triple and once i learn how to get good with it. Sorry if this is a little too much. I love the ocarina SSSSOOOO much! But i will practice as much as i can once i get my hands on the money for the Maparam Triple. It will be soon i think. Hopefully i will get it for christmas. But yeah i will post some stuff like tabs and stuff but look for stuff like that. I highly suggest Maparam, Focalink, Hind andSongbird. Songbird mainly for pendants ocarinas. I highly suggest staying away from the STL's. For thoase who have just started the ocarina. But i have written WWWAAAYYY too much so before i write another page and a half i will go so sorry for being so annoying! lol

Hello everyone! I'm new, obviously, and thought I'd introduce myself formally for once on a forum. I live in near Houston Texas and I'm planning on going to school for my BS in Computer Science (I'm taking a well-deserved year off.) Just to clarify, in case anyone asks, my house was not destroyed in the recent hurricane. however there were tornado's near it that demolished some a few blocks away... scary. Anyway, I got the generic introduction to the Ocarina at about age 8, and again just recently, with my obsession over flutes. I am hoping to purchase my first ocarina this week, and will make a post so you wonderful folks can help me decide! ![]() One of the things I find I like most about the Ocarina is its way of making music seem innocent and beautiful, and portraying a wide range of emotions. I also enjoy how, being such a semi-unknown instrument, at least here in the US, It kind of frees up music and takes away the criticism and drama, and seems to make music about expression again, at least for me, which is why I've decided on buying my Oc before my flute. Thanks to all who took the time to read this, and I look forward to bringing something to the TON Community, and the Ocarina World. P.S. I apologize in advance for having to put up with my shenanigans :P |

Hello, My name is Evan. After researching for a bit, I'm going to order a Focalink 12 hole alto C ocarina in the very near future. I've been playing piano on and off for about 10 years and I can read music pretty well. I also play drums and guitar occasionally. So my music experience is decent. I hope I will enjoy playing the ocarina! And, yes, I am a former Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time player.

OcarinaTycoon here. I noticed that OU became a ghost site, and I noticed many posts from OU about this TON forum, so I converted over to this one. Those little emote GIF's are kinda cool. Anyways, I'm here and I don't really need much of an introduction for everyone who knows me. If you don't know me, here's a short description. I'm a Native American ocarina player/ maker who is 23 years old who has served in the military time and returned home safely after my 6 months in the war zone. I'm 6'7'' tall (201 cm) and I enjoy music all day! I have a little experience in ocarina, guitar, didgeridoo, hand drums on the table, and keyboard. I'm currently waiting for an ocarina to be fired so that I can sell it on ebay. I'm on Youtube with the same name as this one if you have any interest in seeing ocs I have made and played. I've been making ocarinas for about 10 months, and this is the first time I'll be having any of them sold on ebay, so I'm hoping to be successful about it Well, thanks for having me over here. Hopefully I can get more people to respond than in OU. OT |

Greetings. I've always wanted to learn how to play a sweet sounding instrument, since I enjoy relaxing tunes, and the violin was my first choice. However, the problem with strings instrument is that it requires far too much care in self-tunning and such, so I hope that I would have a better chance at the ocarina. Its rich history and unique shape intrigues me and I finally bought the enigma from stlocarina to start 2 days ago, so I'm extremely new. I think the sweet potato gives the ocarina its own artistic position in the wind instrument group. I've fogotten everything I learn about music theory, so I have much to learn. I'm looking forward to what I'll be able to learn from you all. |

Sure, I've posted 80 times without saying anything in the introduction topic, but I will now. I can be called Jake. Though it's not my real name, I've used it on the internet so much for so long it may as well be. I first got interested in ocarinas in around 2001. I was a major Ocarina of Time fan having recently been able to really play it. In my school's library I had forgotten my book so I wasn't able to check out another. So I read the magazines and a Nintendo Power happened to be there. I liesurely read it until coming to a later page where there was an advertisement for Songbird Ocarinas. I was thinking somewhere along the lines of "WTF? You mean they're real?" I asked the librarian if I could cut out the page and bring it home and she let me. At home I looked up the website as soon as I could and found the Zelda replicas. Fifty bucks each. I don't remember how I convinced my dad to buy one for me, but he did. I spent the next few weeks in agony waiting for the box in the mail. I swear, the one bad thing about SO is their shipping time. But I finally got it. Unwrapped the lavender paper and found a fresh-smelling ocarina within. I was confused to why it was purple rather than blue, but it was still amazing. I played it all the time and got an Alto pendant not too long after. Wore it all the time. My interest dwindled in around late 2004, though I wasn't sure why. In 2006 I was interested in them again, but wanted something more. Five holes was limiting. And I found Saint Louis Ocarinas. Their 12-hole Tenor looked great and I recieved it for Christmas, but was unhappy with the higher notes, which turned me off to the instrument. I felt like I still had that limitation and didn't play much. But here I am again, better and wiser. I know more about the ocarina. I'm learning sheet music. I've found actually high quality ocarina makers. And I've discovered a community. The end. |

Howdy my name is Drew and I've been sort of playing the ocarina for about nine years though I'm not that good... Anyway my first ocarina was a green alto by Anita Feng but sadly it broke a few years ago but luckily my second ocarina arrived a few days later. It's a songbird zelda umm replica I guess and I haven't really gotten another real ocarina since then although I've had two and still own one peruvian but I never play it for obvious reasons. I do have a songbird soprano and alto pendant in the mail right now and they should arrive soon. I have also made my own ocarina a few months ago out of white oven bake clay(polyclay) which has four holes and is pendant sized but no string loop but although it is functional it isn't tuned and very airy. I can't read music and haven't really found many good picture tabs over the years so I don't know very many songs but I play the ones I do know and have wrote tabs to Mercedes Lullaby from the movie Pan's Labyrinth which you can find under M on the songbird compose your own song thing. Anyways this seems like a cool forum and it should be fun being a member of the "ocarina community" that I've just recently become aware of .

I've wanted an ocarina since a friend showed me the original songbird ocarina website, way back before the ugly flash thing they've got now. But US$50 plus postage always seemed a long way off what I could actually afford. Finally ordered it last week, and am waiting impatiently. Wish I could have found a seller in Aus... i hate waiting for international shipping. |

Hello. I am Mairead (ma-re-ed) lol anyway I want an ocarina and I plan on ordering one anyday now from songbird ocarina. Yes I want a Zelda one mainly because they look bad a**. And I want a ocarina because I would love to learn how to play. I sing, play guitar, and kinda piano, so I thought trying a new instrument would be fun. I am a die-hard Zelda fan. My fav is of course LoZ 64 OoT.
