UPDATE!!! I guess just check the middle for "other video game"
(If you were inspired by another game notify me and i will add a poll option, or just keep updating the score.)

I myself am a Zelda Fan, but am going to get the 13th DBZ movie Tapion is in, cause it sounds awesome, and it is another n00b ocarina recruiter.

ZELDA!
OR
TAPION!

Tapion inspired me because he sacrificed himself to save his people by playing an ocarina to trap a monster inside him, then he trapped himself on a box with the monster inside him.

DBZ forever!!!!

I wish I were one of the people that could say I started playing the ocarina because it's a cool instrument, but alas, Zelda did it. My ocarina acquisition story is in the introduction topic.

Not everyone was inspired by a game. I was introduced through Zelda, but I really wanted to play it when I was looking at flutes and their families. I looked it up and heard the real way it sounded and fell in love.

zelda for me, though when i started doing the research it became less about zelda, more about proving something to myself :)
the zelda songs were good to get started though. something familiar

Lol, I know that :zelda: isn't the only thing that inspires some people to get an Ocarina, its not even the only game that has an ocarina in it ;)

And I know that some people just started playing Ocarina because they liked it, thats why this poll is in the "Video Game" section.

I'm a victim to this :zelda: nerd curse thing as well,

But there are people that were inspired by professional players of the Ocarina.
Maybe another poll should be started, that doesnt favor one side like this poll does? :?

Lol, yeah, you'd be surprised at the vast majority of people that didn't know an ocarina was actually a real professional instrument! :slap: :D ;)

The funny thing is that part of Zelda was to bring attention to the ocarina...at least at first, so it's not such a bad thing if LOZ had something to do with someone's interest in ocarinas, but at the same time, probably because it's such a fantasy game, the mysterious little instrument Link uses just doesn't seem real  oh, the irony :|

hmm actually it was final fantasy... The Cosmo Canyon Vid of Docjazz4 :) Then I realized that a Zelda game was named like this beatiful instrument, that confirmed my decision to play it.

I've always wanted to learn to play a wind instrument after learning the violin. After all the trouble of tuning a string instrument, I simply had to look for a less difficult instrument that I can count on in all seasons round. Ocarina is the sort of obscure instruments that most of the general public does not know of, so once I remembered about it, I rushed to do some research on it.

I wish I had discovered this forum earlier, then, I might have made a Focalink purchase instead of an STL enigma.

this forum helped me deal with my impulse buy, and get the focalink, with good faith that it wouldnt be a let down. i still like my Schwarts, but as a cliche piece now rather than an instrument.

Zelda made me aware of the instrument, but just the way it sounds and the fact i want to be different made me buy one XD

Zelda kicks Tapion's behind :D

As the resident geezer, I should of course add that not only was I not inspired by the Zelda game, I had no inkling of the existence of that game. And now that I know it exists, I don't care. I've know of the ocarina as a folk instrument for most of my life. It's not really that arcane among people who know a bit about music. That said, I didn't know anything about concert-quality ocarinists, or the popularity of the instrument in Asia.

The wandering musician
I played zelda at a friends house once and kind of got obsessed with the game and because I didn't even have a nintendo 64 at that time(was still playing super mario bros. on the old Nintendo Entertainment System) I played it every time I went to their house and eventually he would say "what game do you wanna play but no zelda!" so I got the system for christmas and bought zelda as soon as I could. The thing that I really liked about the game was the music and the ocarina though, not to mention the skull kids playing saria's song in the lost woods which I've always wanted to try in real life. So I looked up ocarinas and bought myself one from Anita Feng and since then Zelda has faded away for me a bit mostly because I haven't owned any more zelda games since ocarina of time but I became more interested in the ocarina and still play mine all the time and hope to get another sweet potato in the future since my Anita's one broke. I also wanted to change my class mates minds about ocarinas when I was eight because people thought that it was just a piece of zelda merchandise so when we had to write speaches mine was about ocarinas and I tried to convince them that it was a lot more than that and that it had been around for thousands of years! Sadly people don't tend to think that eight year olds have all their facts straight and they all probably still think it was made up for the game. Oh well at least we all know the truth!

Well sorry for the long posts but when you have an interest that no one else around you shares you'll take any chance you get to discuss it. :TON:

Yeah, lots of ppl think the ocarina is made up, due to it being heavily related to Zelda in the USA and other parts of the world.

Even though Japan is big in Zelda too, at least they got Osawa Satoshi one of the Ocarina Masters out there! :D
