When I first came to TON I had big trouble finding links, and would mouse over weird words and such because they are the same color as the text. It would be a lot easier to just have them show as a separate color, wouldn't you say? I've gotten used to looking for them now, but it's still sort of a pain. I use the Fog Hat scheme.

Wow. I have no problem seeing a fair difference in color.
Maybe it is a difference in monitor settings.

I agree that links are a bit difficult to impossible to spot, depending on the theme. In the case of Cream Dream, you can spot the links if you are actually reading the text, but if you are just scrolling through the page, you probably will miss most/all links. In the case of the two other themes... You won't be able to spot the links even if you are reading the text because the links are same color as the text, they aren't even underlined. That's a major design fault (with all due respect for the maker of the themes).

In my opinion a good color for links is such that when you scroll/skim through a page you will be able to spot every link there is, even if that means sacrificing the overall look of the webpage. Because some times you want to skim through a page to check out the links there is. It is annoying to look for the links if you have to concentrate on each word to see if it is written with slightly different color. And of course if the links are same color as the text, you have a lot of "scanning" to do to find all the links from a page.

This is important for the usability of webpages, links are after all one of the great things of webpages. I mean, the way how you can just click a word and you are sent to a different page instead of needing to copy paste a long address and do it manually. But if you can't find the links from all the normal words, that kind of negates the whole point of using links. Displays affects how webpages are being displayed for the user, especially how they have been configured. Well configured displays can usually display colors well enough (we aren't talking about "image editing well enough" here), but wrongly configured display may for example fail to display difference between two shades of same color (light red vs little darker red). Also it's entirely possible that your webpage is viewed by someone who has some disability preventing him from for example seeing properly. You can't except that your webpages are being viewed using 2000eur++ display configured by a professional and used in optimal lighting and that the user is perfectly healthy!

And talking about the themes, the Bon Ton is nice looking theme except that the compination of pure black background with pure white foreground hurts one's eyes. It would be better if either the background would be made less black or the foreground less white.

The themes are otherwise really good looking, so major  for Moonsyne for making them.

Ah, I didn't know Moonsyne made them. I'm rather fond of Fog Hat myself. I agree that Bon Ton is a little irritating, but that's why I don't use it. But I am unsure as to whether or not it is a browser issue, or just an issue with the themes. A lot of times Firefox and IE can display the same code very differently.

I use Firefox, and have a large screen. I checked on my husband's computer and the colors do indeed look much more similar on his. I'll pull out the big ol' theme coding and see what I can do.

I know that Bon Ton is a like it or hate it theme, but I know several people would kick me in the shins if I messed with it. That is what Fog Hat is for, a medium in between.

Well don't you dare mess with Fog Hat either! I'm personally running Firefox 3 in 1680x1050 (Widescreen) resolution. Also, thanks for working on it. :hi:

You don't have the same complaint with fog hat? None of it's links are underline and both text and links are similar shades of grey the same degree apart as cream dream.

Oh, I thought you were referring to the fact that Bon Ton hurts peoples eyes, and that you couldn't change it because it had a religious following. I was just commenting that I found Fog Hat very aesthetically pleasing(so much that I squealed with glee upon discovering it). The links are almost impossible to differentiate though, and I've no qualms about changing that.

Ok, good. I was confused. :?

Edit: To cut down on color complaints, I made links underlined.

Feedback welcome.

Underlining is much better nothing, but I would still prefer a different color for links. Simply because underlining is somewhat oftenly used to... underline things. ; ) So when ever you see any underlined text, you'll go to mouse over it in the hopes it's a link.

One board I visit often uses white and different shades of gray/black as it's theme's main colors. The links are red, so they are very easy to spot. And still the theme looks good. So I would recommend something similar for here too. Just pick some color that doesn't hurt one's eyes but is very clearly seen from all the rest of the text.

edit: I think that the same/similar blue as the one used for moderators' names might work quite well with Fog Hat, but can't be sure of that before I see it in action. And I'm too lazy to test it myself.

Much better! Now they keep in color scheme AND are easily identifiable. Thanks for fixing it. :)

Well, that's my opinion at least. I'm fine with underlines, as any emphasis I use is typically in italics, but I'm not the only one on the forum.

I'm not insane. I'm interesting.

I do have to say that I never had any problems. I agree that the colors may be a bit too simliar but the epic underlining on Cream Dream looks just a bit too... overloaded and confusing. :\
The other themes look fine though.
I guess it's the combination of underlining and font color in Cream Dream.

I think it would be fine if only the links in posts would be underlined, and not the one at the main page or the names.

I agree with Ocjaeger. I never had a problem identifying links before but underlining them is fine with me.

Just an update, I'm finding the underlines in Fog Hat MUCH more intuitive. I can tell right off where the links are.

Blue links? Oh Moonsyne. >__>
I'm not really a fan of this as a link color but meh. :\
They are also far too bright, a little more decent would be better. (Meaning a darker shade of blue.)
I still have the feeling that the blue is a bit... misplaced and breaks cream Dream's color scheme. :]

In cream dream only:
I am trying different options. Please express your opinions in the Poll thread.
