I have one, a soprano F sweet potato.

Their ocarinas are nice and have a bird-like sound.

Gosselink makes single and double (harmonic) bird shaped ocarinas, sweet potatoes and a sort of ceramic clarinet.

I've seen these ocarinas featured on the Ocarina Festival Budrio website. I guess you've seen them there in real life, delorian :D

I always did think they looked beautiful, but listening to that music file made me realise that they also sound beautiful :D :D :D :D

Yes... I've tried and played almost all the ocarinas you see in the photos posted by Walden ;)

The photo with the sweet potatoes was taken in Budrio in 2005.

Maybe not for long! If nobody buys that for a few months, I'm probably going to, unless anyone else wants to.

The tuning coulisse works well and I really like the bird-like sound.

I wish he sold them online!
http://www.ocarina-enchanteur.com/ocarinas.php

A french site without english section though, but my french is good enough to find this line:

Les ocarinas ci-dessous ont été créés par Olivier Gosselink.
->The ocarinas down here (refers to a picture) are created by Olivier Gosselink.

You could contact this man, Jacques André, and ask him about how to reach Monsieur Gosselink and whether he would sell an ocarina to you. Email-adress is on that site.
Good luck ^.^

PS: Genreally I don't like ocarinas with high sounds but this one is incredibly harmonic. I could imagine buying one, too.

Oh and I found a sweet potato one at the french ebay: http://cgi.ebay.fr/OCARINA-PROFESSIONNEL-TRAVERSIER-D%27OLIVIER-GOSSELINK_W0QQitemZ260478968380QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090919?IMSfp=TL090919196001r6661

O, I like this very much. Can you give us a sound sample, please?

All these Sweet potatoes from Gosselink seem to have such a plug at the left side. Is it fur tuning?
Is there in between a possibility to get Gosselink ocarinas online?

Yes, that's a tuning plug. It changes the volume of air inside the ocarina and by that the pitch.
A French Ebay shop named "Percubox" apparently sells them from time to time.

I've got two bird ocarinas made by Gosselink, here are some pictures:

Thank you for your answer.
Yes, those birds i'd like to have, too. But there is also a certain other ocarina (or two) and a certain whistle. And 2 ocarinas are just on their way.
Doesn't that never stop? Doesn't the wish list never get shorter? I know the answer. This is not my first hobby .. :boogie:

@Fenrisfang
o, how very, very nice.

Yes, I bought it from Olivier at the Festival. He doesn't have a website yet, but he told me that he will soon make it.

That way his amazing work will be available for everyone over the internet. :D

I liked the Gosselinks' bright, chirpy sound quite a bit: not what I'd want for my only ocarina, but perfect for certain types of music and quite cute.

What is the advantage to the tuning slide? Does it allow you to change the pitch by a semitone or more? (i.e. could you make an alto C an alto B or an alto C# by pulling the tuning slide in or out?) Or is it just to fine-tune the pitch if you're playing along with instruments not tuned to concert pitch?

I personally don't care too much for the look of them, and if it's just fine-tuning the pitch, it seems to me that a slight increase or decrease in breath pressure would do the job just fine. However, if it can allow you to change the tuning of your ocarina to a different key, I can see how that would be useful...

Enjoy them, all you who have them? How loud/expressive do you think they are, and what are their breath requirements/breath curves like?

Most Pompa Di Intonazione (tuning slides) allow one semitone below and above (the oc is in at A=440 when the slide is in the middle). This allows concert pitches of A=415 through A=467, which are the other two standards.

If you attempt to play along with another live instrument and you are more than 3hz out of tune it often sounds quite terrible, which necessitates a tuning slide to correct.

Usually even less than that - maybe plus/minus 15 Hz. Today, there is hardly any need for it.
