List of Instuments:; What You Have and What You Want

The Uber Ocarinist

Ever since I'd started to play the ocarina, I began to grow a strong love for music. Once this seed was planted, the love started to expand and now I see music in a way I would have never seen it before.

Today I thought of a list on Instruments that I play and want to play. In the end I came up with a long extensive list. I've decided to share this list to show what I'm interested in. I hope that you share your list too.

Have:

OCARINA:Do I even have to explain this one?

TIN WHISTLE:I actually have a cheap $3 whistle (The Clark MEG D). The Tin Whistle is a celtic instrument with a rough metallic sound with the range of 2 octaves.

PIANO:(Actually its a keyboard) A keyed percussion instrument where strings are hit to be vibrated.

Want:

XAPHOON:The Xaphoon is what you get when you mix a Sax and a Clarinet. Around $50.

GUITAR: A strummed instrument with 6 steel strings. (My sister owns one.)

UKULELE: Like a four stringed Guitar with nylon strings.(My mom has one.)

MANDOLIN: I don't anything about them except for that I want one.

BANJO: Another thing I know nothing about.

AUTOHARP: I know nothing.

BODHRAN DRUM: An awesome celtic drum.

I got my first instrument when I was 8 and it was an electric piano... I still have it, but I never learned to play it.... before I came to the States I was learning to play guitar (my uncle even bought me one) I was getting the hang of it, but I had to came here, so I left my guitar in my country (i will go to my country on August and i will defenitely be back with it)... Recently I started to like the Flute and I would love to have a set of drums.

Seresúl: I completely forgot where we were talking about this but there was a thread talking about hand harps and lyres. Why are earth are lyres so expensive? I'd love to add one to my instrument collection but that $1000+ price tag is scaring me away..

Haha yeah. I've been looking and asking around and the price is the only thing stopping me from buying a lyre.
I have however found an alternative that costs just a bit more than a triple ocarina. The Reverie Harp.

I don't think I'll buy it anytime soon, but it's something to keep in mind for the future

I've always wondered myself. Perhaps lyres are hard to build? Harps I can understand because their is a lot of skill and craftsmanship involved, especially concert pedal harps. Lyres seem a bit expensive to me, they're small and they don't seem to have any complex parts.

what I own:
a geminhardt flute(yay for awesome old flute that grandma found in a pawn shop)
stl 12 hole tenor
kazoo ( the world's second most awesome instrument....behind the piccolo of course)
some random stuff that could be considered percussion instruments (if you don't think so ask any true drummer....anything can be turned into a percussion instrument.......)
a violin (still learning the basics so far)

what I want;
a triple ocarina(maparam or focalink)
a musical saw....

Harps take a very long time to build and carve, and are usually made by a single craftsman. My ex's brother Davy Patton makes Clairseachs (Irish wire harps) and he can only manage one or two a year. He's the top maker in the world, and they can sell for up to £20,000 ($40,000) each, but he doesn't make much of a living at it since they take so long to make :( And these are SMALL harps! Imagine the amount of work in building a full-sized one....I don't want to think about it! :D
Oooh, I just looked- he finally has a new website!
http://www.davypatton.com/

I've been planning to ask him to make me a bog-oak, holly and padouk ocarina for ages now :)

I completely forgot to say that I also want a Shakuhachi.
I would love to have a shamisen as well.
A hang drum would also be lots of fun.

By the way, the Reverie harp is apparently made in Stillwater, Minnesota which is only a hour's drive from where I live!

That Davy Patton harp sounds really nice! Hmmm, my aunt plays the harp. She has a full sized harp. There's no way she could afford one of these though.

Hang Drums are discontinued. The makers have stopped producing them, so it's going to be very hard getting hold of one. I'm not sure of the exact number of hang drums produced but I doubt it's more than 10,000. probably around 5000. And to think they were already pretty darn expensive when bought from the makers (which by the way had a waiting time of about a year), just think what the price will be for one now.

And DEFINITLY not piano.

My life goal is to learn 14 different instruments. I would have posted mandolin, but I've only attempted it once, and it was a friend's instrument but I was pretty good.

Thanks Jojo but I'll have to pass. I live in a tiny apartment right now (four stories up and no elevator) and if I have to chose between a grand piano and a kitchen... :?

I think I'll chose to continue eating. Plus shipping would be crazy if you didn't live near me. Thanks though
