..does anyone ever silently laugh to themselves? I do. I find it funny that people skip over the official stuff, not realizing it's their key to accessing the forums. I'm extremely grateful for our anti spam measures!

LOL, just for fun, I extracted STL's IP addresses (from emails) and searched them on our member database. There was match - but a "New Members" account that hasn't been fully activated, because they didn't post in the New Member's topic

Is reaston the name of the account?
I'm sure there are more though, I highly doubt STL would be able to keep out of here!

It's fine if they are here. I have nothing against STL, it's just kinda frustrating to see your oc on sale somewhere else for a third of the price...

Tee hee!

Was just wondering...was looking at the memberlist...loads of people haven't even made one post yet. What happens to those memberships? Do they sit there forever, or get deleted after a certain deadline?

I think the memberlist will look like OU's after a while if they're not deleted every once in a while... Half the members having no posts and not coming online >.< so stupid....

I think they just sit there lmao...idk really, I'd have to ask Gasspoo©iTomato
I think alot of these accounts are either spambots or people who don't get that they need to post in the only thread that is visible to them.

I know this is prolly a Dumb Q but what exactly ARE spambots? I have a general idea but no definititions! They're programs that scan email addresses and web addresses or something like that?
[EDIT] also, maybe since there are already security measures when signing up, how about something like 'you must activate your account within 3 months or it will be deleted from the system'?

Yeah....why go to all the bother of signing up and then NEVER posting? Doesn't make sense....though I think unused accounts should be deleted after 6 months or so!

I was thinking about that too, like deleting people who hasn't got any posts XD after like 6 months or something. I think there is a filter like that... our member will go down from 1000 to 300 XD

Yeah but it'll cut down all the mess of the members list and keep things neat and tidy!

I dunno, I'm just a tidy person, who hates having mess and useless stuff about....! A bit of a minimalist! :confident:

Oh, yeah, so am I. I have way too much much time on my hands (apparently)..I checked the memberlist a while back. I wanted to see who had joined from OU. I noticed a bunch of woild-be spammers, about 18 at the time. There are now more. Obvious because of the dorky user names.:spam::spam:

I agree, I think inactive accounts should be deleted after a period of inactivity. Six months seems like a good time frame.

i hate to say it but
it happens on most forums
im currently on one
(not this one)
we made a rule
if you dont make 1 post after 1 week
you will be deleted
after your 1st post you have 1 month to make 5 posts
its really simple
but we had 18 members
now its 9
i had to deleat most due to the fact
they registered on april 1
and never posted a thing
one got banned because he was posting po&& on out forum
so tired of deleting non-active members

Me three! I'd rather be able to point to our member count and say look, 100% of that contributes to TON, rather than pointing to the member count and say um.. yeah.. 50% of the people post? ..I think?

hmm very good suggestions.

Well here's the administrative side to it.

The reason why we (Demaul, actually :D) made the system where new members have to make the post to fully register is to keep spam bots out. And so far it has been doing a good job of it, and we haven't had to worry about the spam bots at all :D :excited: They can't make posts, so they stay as "New members", unable to create spam topics in the forum.

Hmm, but manually going through the entire memberlist and deleting each spam bot... sounds time consuming  It could be done, and the admins will discuss about it - but in my opinion, on boards like this, spam bots will keep coming inevitably :XD: In the administating side, it's much easier to just have the 'post to validate' system and not think about them. But if it is the members who want them to be deleted, we will consider it very deeply :D

Maybe a way to make it so that New members who take too long to make their first post can be automatically deleted. But then I worry about people who made the account, but haven't posted because they're not internet savvy, but wanna know about ocarinas...and having their accounts deleted in the time they realise would be even more confusion  But I guess some of the really obvious spam bots are easily identifiable :XD:

We'll discuss this! Thanks for the suggestions!!

Maybe you could delete them after a month and a half or so. If people don't figure it out by then they're not going to >.< And I think the memberlist would look a lot better without all the useless people that have never even logged in, much less posted >.<
