Ok, this is really frustrating the heck out of me.

I have a lullaby book full of Children's songs and since theyre children's songs and everyone knows them so well, plus the book is in an easy to read format (sheet music included)...I tried playing it with my recorder but it did not sound like I expected it would sound like.

I dont understand. The notes can be easily played on the recorder flute. Perhaps because the sheet music is for piano? But like I said, it is easy to ready so I thought this would be a good way to learn to read music.

Plus, does anyone know where I can find recorder sheet music for practice?

Oh and yeah...you can discuss anything about the recorder flute here. From being an annoying children's instrument to playing it as a serious musical instrument.

Hmm, I'd have to actually see a page in order to see what's wrong, but I assume there's a bass and treble clef with lots of chords and notes because you mentioned it possibly being for the piano? In that case, just pick up the uppermost line of notes in the treble clef, that's the melody. If you play that that should sound right.

Any music for any instrument could also be music for another, as long as it stays within range. It's just a matter of picking out the melody line.

Most ocarina sheet music will work for the recorder, and vice versa :)

In fact, I think the recorder has roughly the range of a Double ocarina if you know how to play those "extra" high notes (by partially covering the top first hole).

I think the common soprano ocarina (edit:oops!), recorder is tuned in C.

Also, you may want to point the blame at your recorder. if you are like me and own a plastic recorder from the old grade school music program you have your problem.
