http://item.express.ebay.com/Legend-Zelda-...cmdZExpressItem Finally a fully playable and fully functional ocarina that looks exactly like the one from Ocarina of Time ![]() And now your's to own for just US $1,995.00!!! :ph43r: I just hope the guy who buys it doesn't think he's got the only "functional ocarina" in the world   It's interesting that Nintendo did in fact release an "official" zelda replica ocarina though... the resemblance with the real thing is undeniable  |

Oh yeah I already know that one. xD I'm actually quite surprised that someone is actually selling one of those. And that price is quite low, the estimated collector's value is way higher. (Something over 3,000$ US I think) I have to make some research now. xD |

It just looks like a painted WPN/TNG....not much like the real Ocarina of Time at all....I'd still pick Spencer's over that ANY day! :wub:Spencer Ocs
 And yes moonsyne, the turning of the poor oc into a 'collector's item' instead of an instrument makes me kinda sad...I feel sorry for the oc...Iknow, I'm silly! |

LMAO. It's probably not even a good ocarina
 If anyone buys that ocarina they are officially crazy. Collectors item or not, it's still just a regular ocarina to me. I'm not gonna buy an ocarina for 2k$ just because it's stamped with nintendo

What i find interesting is the position of the one subhole seems like it would be akward to use anyhow. |

For replicas, I think nothing beats the Dunster, which actually has the correct amount of holes on top ... in the correct place. Not really the most awesome Oc, but unique in having two unuseable holes. EDIT: Finish looks very similar to this. |

That's what I thought, too, the first time I saw it....a painted WPN. The shape is entirely wrong for the OoT. The replicas that are being made now are much better representations of the oc in the game. And it looks like there are five finger holes for the right hand. They all look too big for any of them to be subholes. I wonder what company Nintendo got to make these ocs? I wish there was a picture of the back.

Yeah all those holes look confusing....but it really does look like a WPN! I wonder who made it....I'm really rusty with my japanese...can anyone translate from the pics? [edit] maybe it *is* a WPN...it was mostlikely made when OoT came out, which was 10 years ago now...thier designs may have been different then? |

Wow, the resemblance with the WPN is uncanny O__o The shape is like totally the same Apart from the holes and it not being left handed the Spencer does an awesome job as a replica  |

Panch told me earlier that the kind of fingering the Nintendo ocarina uses is similar to Aketa (Japan). Aketa were the first 12-hole ocarinas - the ancestor to the 12-hole ocarinas as we know it today. Aketa: ![]() I guess the modifications on the newer 12-holes were an improvement in terms of comfort |

Is the fingering system on the OoT a traditional system too? It seems very unusual. Don't Dunster use it too on their replicas? It looks a little akward to play though. |

lol, well there are people out their wih 12 fingers instead of 10. All though many were killed off in the middle ages. But they would find this type of ocarina more "comfortable," I guess. |

Thanks!
Even though it looks very similar in shape to a WPN, I don't think it could possibly be one. How weird (and wrong) would it be for a Japanese company to hire a Taiwanese ocarina company to make their ocs? :o Especially since Aketa invented the 12 hole oc. |

Very interesting. I have noticed that the mouth piece one the wpn is longer the on the replica. The clay also looks thicker on the wpn. But who would want a oc with 5 holes on one side? |

I'm pretty sure that the maker of the Nintendo ocarina would be Japanese. There are MANY Japanese ocarina makers. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more Japanese ocarina makers than from any other country. www.10holes.com shows a lot of different Japanese ocarina makers! That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the design of WPN ocarinas were inspired by that particular Nintendo ocarina. There's always a possibility that they made it look similar to that one - afterall, STL sells them as "Zelda" ocarinas

I own one of these Nintendo replicas. It says in the instruction manual (このホはあけたままです) which means this hole must stay open (reffering to the hole closest to the mouth piece). This ocarina has 2 holes which stay open to create a rich tone. You do not need to have extra fingers LOL. It is honestly one of the nicest sounding ocarinas that I have played. Even better than the Spencer IMO. Not sure who actually manufactured it but I would bet my money it's a Japanese company. |

That's a very expensive ocarina. I would love to here it played though, to see if any part of that price is actually for a quality instrument. |

Would you post a picture of the back, showing the sound hole, please? I'm very curious. I'd like to see how its size and shape compares to a WPN and Spencer's.

Ok, I'll work on taking some pictures and see if I can upload some sound samples that do it justice. I bought it on a trip to Japan many years ago for about 40,000 yen. Though until recently I never have seen it for sale.....anywhere! I wouldn't let mine go, not even for $2k! The back has 3 holes in a triangular shape. You leave the top one open. You use your thumbs to hold the other 2 holes. It has a very snug feel and is pretty easy to play. It's pretty loud if you wail on it. I try not to use it a lot though as it is pretty much irreplaceable (I dont have $2k!) |

Interesting, the back seems to be made of a different material, or is it just colored differently? Also that's a unique shape on the back. Just curious, does it have the initials etc. of a maker anywhere on it? and do you know who/ what company made it? |

It is just not glazed theres some logic behind that.![]() I don't see any reference to a manufacturer. Though, I'd bet it a Japanese company. |
