Ooh that's pretty cool. How apt for Beijing to have ocarinas dedicated to the Olympics. Seems like anything that's been around for a long time made it way to China at some point or another.

Buying one of those owl pendants and a Jugarina would be awesome. But the silver one? I'd by that even if it wasn't an ocarina. I love shiny stuff. :rupee:

I too wonder how that thing could be an ocarina..... Oh well, silvery shininess.

Does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to have a pendant ocarina made from silver like a shell? Because that is too beautiful.

You could probably silver plate a pendant....

That should be too expensive.

Didn't someone make a silver plated, tiny ocarina. I can't remember who right now, but one of the talented makers made one.

Pure silver? Way too expensive. Silver jewelry = expensive. Handmade items = expensive. Expensive + expensive = you need enough money to buy a planet.

Or something like that. I imagine it'd also be really hard, because you have to alloy the silver with another metal, otherwise it's so soft as to be useless. Then there's all the research and testing involved with that. If you sold your first two children I'm sure you could get it. :omg:

Well the price per oz of silver (according to http://www.kitco.com/market/index.html ) is about $16.46 I would imagine a pendant ocarina the size of a songbird shouldn't weight more than 2 pounds at impossible max. So total raw material price would be about $526.72 Now I don't know which maker can actually do silver moulding instead of ceramic, so I'd imagine I'd have to find the metal ocarina maker again. I can't say what the additional labour costs for working with a painful material like silver would be but I think that about double the labour costs should cover it, so that's about $1,053.44 for labour, plus the material cost. Then we have the additional alloy cost and the research and possible remelting and all of that. So what, we could say something like $3,000 USD or more for a pure silver pendant ocarina?

So, my kidney then, not my firstborn. That's good to know. :P Thanks for taking the time to put that together! I don't even want to know how much it would be for gold.

This is a blog of a Taiwanese ocarinist, if you scroll down he's scanned in pictures from an article talking about ocarina production. He has some pretty interesting shaped ones there! Also, does anyone know what voice the ocarina that's playing on his page is in? Sounds like a.. tenor?

I dunno, but that Ocarina sounds deeper than a Tenor. Perhaps a Bass of some sorts.

But yeah, pretty arcane shapes. Some where quite beautiful.

3000 USD? Bugger, I think I have to sell Stevtomato into slavery.... Now where did I put that net... :ph43r:

I thought the pendants looked kind of corny, but the Japanse concert would be a thing on my list to see, when ever I get visit again.

I'm most impressed with this saxophone-like ocarina (saxophonarina :omg: ?) that Osawa Satoshi has!!

He used it in his Ave Maria video.

Wow, those are some beautiful ocarinas! I guess it just goes to show you can really make your ocarinas a work of art in just the shape... I kinda feel like designing some now xD

a pendant could be silver plated, which would take virtually no silver, as it can be incredibly thin. the 14k gold pendant on ebay went for 45 USD

I'm guessing it's an older model of Darryn Songbird's Ocarina of Time, but all I know is I like this color a lot better~
