OMG I can imagine those humongous taiko drums.

I once met a taiko drum group from Boston. They were practicing in their garage and the police came over telling them to quiet down (taiko drums NEED to be loud!) because the sound of the drums could be heard over a block away.

LMAO hell yeah.

I remember on one of my trips to Japan, I visited a Taiko drum concert - it was very loud, but awesome as hell.

Once heard a professional shamisen performer, he was absolutely amazing. No mistakes, memorized his music entirely, and he was only 14. Oh. my. goodness. I often see qin and pipa being played in Taiwanese dramas -- I'd love to learn the qin. I also want to pick up the shiao - Chinese flute. Apparently that's two steps above a regular flute in terms of difficulty in playing.

I got to play a taiko drum when a group was performing at my school. They asked for volunteers and I practically jumped up. It was a lot fun!

I still remember the rhythm they taught me. It went like this: Matsuri Rhythm

I really want to try a shakuhachi.

A have a medium sized Korean bamboo flute that you can see in my channel image:
(the very bottom one is a wooden Adler recorder, I mean the one on top of it :) )

Posted Image

It is very hard to make a sound out of - I hear you can only play it with a clear mind  Maybe I have too much on my mind  My sister, who plays the concert flute (like shadowyi!) says that they're played very differently

This korean bamboo flute is called a "Soggeum". The bigger one is called a "Daeggum" and that one is more well known. Mine was a gift from my grandfather (who lives in Korea, and I introduced him to ocarinas - has now has a Maparam AC woot!)

Oh here's a video of someone I found on youtube playing the same bamboo flute I have - he's so good!! (also check out his channel, there are some ocarina videos, including some by this really cute girl  ..who I tried to contact, but I never got a reply  )

say, wasn't shadowyi into bamboo flutes?

Mail your flute to me so I can try!! :P I have actually also played a baroque flute before, it looks very much like the bamboo flute. It was quite painful to play to be honest, had to wrench my hand into new angles and the flute was naturally sharp. I would be playing a regular F on a concert flute but be playing F sharp on the baroque. Is the bamboo flute like that?

Korean drums are very fun to play... I don't know what they're called, but they have weird looking drumming sticks.

I love the pipa and shamisen. I wish I could afford a shamisen but they usually cost $1,000 and teachers are damn near impossible to find. Especially the tsugaru jamisen (the type well known for bluegrass-esqe improvision). -_- We need to import shamisen teachers from Japan, not electronics.
The shamisen is perfect for a duet with an ocarina.
My mother has a baroque flute. I commend you for your efforts to play one. I don't know how she plays that thing.

@Sam, Sorry this is so late, but That's Awesome that your Grandfather plays Ocarina! You totally need to do a duet with him for a video! Perhaps a traditional Korean song, or something cool like that :D
