Anita Feng ocarinas are said to be very good quality ocarinas. Unfortunately she is retiring from the ocarina business to make clay buddhas. However she is selling off whatever ocarinas she has left in stock. I personally just ordered 4 of her ocarinas :ocarina:

Feel free to discuss Anitas ocarinas in this thread

You should be quick. Here is a quote from an email I got from her.

Thank you for your interest in my ocarinas.  It's been a wonderful 30+ years of making them!  Right now I have a couple of bass ocarinas left.  They have an excellent tone -- a couple of my favorites

I'm sure you've all seen my review of it right? If not here it is

10 Hole Bass Ocarina Review

Remember, her bass takes a great amount of breath, but the low mellow sound is great ^^

My 4 Anita Feng ocarinas have been held up for more than 2 weeks at the customs.
I'm getting slightly worried about them getting here.

Can you email customs or anything to inquire about the hold up?

I just got the arrival note in my mail.

I'll have to throw in a big WTF! because I have to pay 117 DOLLARS to the customs. :omg: I hate the customs sooooo much now :XP:

117 BLOODY DOLLARS! I could get another ocarina for that money!

Alright I've recieved my Feng ocarinas and have taken some photos.

All 4 ocarinas
Soprano
Alto
Tenor
Bass

It's difficult for me to quickly learn the fingering system as it's slightly different than the standard system and that makes me confused. When I feel comfortable playing it I will probably make videos.

Poor excuse for an ocarina-player.
I have heard that her ocarinas were completely inline, in fingering.

Like this:

do x|xxxx|xxxx|x
re x|xxxx|xxxo|x
mi x|xxxx|xxoo|x
fa x|xxxx|xooo|x
sol x|xxxx|oooo|x
la x|xxxo|oooo|x
ti x|xxoo|oooo|x
etc.

rather than:
do x|xxxx|xxxx|x
re x|xxxx|xxxo|x
mi x|xxxx|xxoo|x
fa x|xxxx|xooo|x
sol x|xxxx|oooo|x
la x|xxox|oooo|x
ti x|xoox|oooo|x
etc.

Is that correct?

Yes ,that's correct Walden. And it's rather difficult to get used to 2 different fingerings for me so I don't use them much -.-

Ok my dad just picked up my package from the post office/pharmacy and it's my anita feng necklace and sweet potato ocarinas! Now the sweet potato was sooo much smaller than I thought it would be and is a bit of a squeeze fitting all my fingers on there but I still can. It sounds good but the very highest note is quite airy but you can still get a sound you just need to blow harder. It looks very nice and there's no cracks or anything except for the stilt marks. The necklace(I say necklace instead of pendant because it's more of a femanine shape) ocarina on the other hand was a bit disapointing... It looks good but there is a umm I would say scar in the glaze that spirals around it once and doesn't look very nice but it's mostly on the back so it's not a big deal. The sound is good but the two highest notes are airy and the highest one I sometimes can't get sound from which is a bit more of a problem seeing as it only has four holes. I also don't think I'll be wearing it because it is more of a femanine style ocarina but maybe I'll let my mom or sister borrow it if they want. So overall I'm a bit sad about the necklace but that's ok because I've got 4 more pendants so it's not a huge deal and I'm very happy with the sweet potato.

That's too bad about the necklace. Are you sure it's not part of the design?

Also, have you tried the acute bend technique for the high notes? that might help with the airiness

Well I thought it might be but it doesn't look very good... kind of like it rolled across the shelf in the kiln while it was still a little hot or something plus it goes right over the umm branding or makers mark or whatever which doesn't seem like something someone would do on purpose but I guess it could be. About the acute bend I'm still not sure how to do that because I've just heard about it recently but once I figure it out I'll try it on this first. I'm assuming she's running out of her best quality ocarinas and because I specifically asked for a green one maybe this is one of the last green ones she had. I don't think it's too bad and if the high notes work with the acute bend then it will be a fine ocarina. I really just wanted the sweet potato anyway the necklace was more of an extra that I thought meh why not add one of those too so it's no big deal to me.

Ok well I did what I think was the acute bend and it seems to work pretty well although I'll have to get used to it if I play it a lot because I have to use it on the 7th and 8th note up. I hope I don't hurt my neck... but aside from that it seems very well tuned at least to itself and my ear, as in I don't hear it sounding off at any point in the scale at least not very noticably.

I would but I don't have a microphone, plus I don't even know what key mines in! It doesn't really matter to me seeing as I don't read sheet music and don't play with other people so I never bothered to find out.
