http://www.ocarina.co.jp/ Does anyone else have one? I've been wondering if I'm the only one outside of Japan who has one? I do know that Mr. Hao Lun Hsu has one, but does anyone else of the forums have one? |

Yeah I know, they are working on an English website though. I really hope they get it up. That would really help. |

@Turbo852: What is the mouthpiece like? Is it made out of plastic? |

No, it's all clay. Just different colored glaze. The mouthpiece seems to have only a clear glaze on it. So you are seeing the color of the clay. Here's a close up of it. Spoiler: click to toggle

Thanks for the info and pic! I was already wondering why they would use plastic  and how on earth they implemented that into the clay O_o This glaze design does make the Night's stand out. I also like the pattern on the grey part. How much did yours cost btw? |

Well, I didn't buy it myself, but my sister said it was $90 USD. She used Yen to buy it though but I don't know how much it was in Yen. Well, with Google Translator you can see what the prices in Yen are. Translated Page At current rates, it looks more like mine was around $56 USD. The price my sister may have said may have included some kind of tax or something for customs or maybe the price or conversion rates changed. I'm not sure. |

Well, I just wanted to say that Night has updated its website! It now has some English on it. However, it is still mostly in Japanese, and I still have to use Google's translation feature to read the pages. They've got some really nice new content though! They have a new fingering chart. A faq full of useful information including ocarina care, and things like how the pitch can change based on the environment. If you live in Japan, they offer repair and maintenance services, which seems pretty nice! Unfortunately, they seem to limit all of their services and events to Japan. Here's a link to their main page as translated by Google. |

Unfortunately, I don't think they ship outside of Japan currently. Their online forms only have Japanese locations in the drop down menu. The translated page does say that it is not only limited to Japan, but I think that is a mistranslation. I'm going to send an inquiry and ask them if they will sell to customers outside of Japan. |

Is it just me or does yours look a lot less boxy than the ones on the site, not to mention the interesting design which the others don't seem to have. Is yours an older version or something? |

Well, mine is an older model. It's the Provence AC model, which they stopped making in 2007. The Provence line was produced between 1993 and 2007. It may be possible to get them on ebay if someone happens to be selling one. I think that's how Icewind got his Soprano. The new models do look more boxy. I don't know what the new ones sound like, but mine has a nice tone. In colder weather it is harder to produce a good tone and it is more airy. In warmer weather, it's much easier to play and a clearer tone even on the high notes can be reached. I know that mine wasn't their top of the line model, but it was pretty decent. I'm not sure how it compares to their new models because I haven't heard them. The only other ocarina I have is the Maparam Triple. The Maparam is much clearer in tone. Of course, it also has a higher range. My video about getting my Maparam does include a small comparison of two notes between the two ocarinas. Here's some sound samples of my Night ocarina: The Song of Time Random 6 You can find more in my original ocarina songs thread. |

Their plastic Alto C costs around $10 USD. The Standard series Alto C is ~$72 USD. Edit: Personally, I don't recommend the PlaOcarina. The high notes are WAY too difficult to play and the plastic is not very strong. For $10 more you can buy a Solist, Noble or Zin which - I have no doubt - should fare much better. They seem to show the keying all wrong on their product pages, showing an Alto C as being A3-F5....wouldn't that make it the same as everyone else's Bass C's? Turbo's Alto C certainly doesn't sound that low. It's nice that they can ship to the US, albeit at an expensive price. Their Tenor C (everyone else's Bass C) does seem to be very expensive @ $584.83 US (I did the conversion) compared to Noble's and STL's, and even Focalink's and Ogawa's. |

Here's a youtube video featuring the Night Plaocarina. At least from the video the Plaocarina sounds very playable, or am I being distracted because the girl playing it is cute... Ponyo Theme on the Night Plaocarina In this 2nd video you can hear the airiness of the high notes. The acute bend is probably required to really hit the high notes correctly? Found another youtube video - Night Plastic AC Edit: I forgot to mention, these Plaocarinas are showing up on ebay, being sold by someone in Korea. The prices are like $15.00 and shipping is like $7.00, so that is much cheaper than directly from Japan, $10 + $46 shipping as mentioned earlier Edited by OcLover, Jan 13 2010, 06:17 PM.
