I would LOVE to have an entire collection of hind inlines, but I'm afraid they will warp out of perfection quicker than I can fully enjoy them.
I've been wondering about that as well. Has he ever said what the general life span of his sweet potato ocarinas are before they go out of tune(or do they)? Since they're made of wood...given enough time the inevitable will happen.

An entire collection? I'd be happy with a Tenor or Bass!

well, it's mostly my fault as I didn't care for my hinds as well as I should have.

If Hind could make a set with some of the MO plastified wood, I would buy them in a heartbeat (funds permitting  )

does anybody happen to know how old Mr. Hind is? I'd like to know how long I have to acquire at least one of his marvelous sweet potatoes

Drink up, me hearties, yo ho. :D

Anyways, man, I LOVE the look and sound of Hinds, I just wish they weren't so darn expensive! I mean, heck, took me a year just to save up for a normal*coughdoublecough* clay oc. However, I would love to add one of these to my collection some day. :D They are just TOO gorgeous.

And I've seen people worrying about warping, and I honestly don't think it'll be a problem. Sure it may happen eventually, but if you protect it from extreme heat or cold, or avoid getting it wet, I don't see why it would happen soon enough to worry about.

Hi Alejandro,

I just wanted to let you know that I am working on your ocarina. Yesterday I got the 2nd coat of oil on it and I should be able to finish it completely today. I will get it in the mail tomorrow.

Thank you for your order, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Can anybody tell me about their shipping experiences with Hind? It's already below freezing here during the nights, with frost and all... and I'm afraid the poor thing will warp during shipping because of the temperatures. I emailed Mr. Hind about it, and he told me this:

Mr Hind

I have asked about this issue at the post office, and they assure me that the packages are kept in temperature controlled environments all the time. Of course I don't know about in your country. You should ask at your post office. The main problem I can see is if your postman leaves it on your doorstep and you don't find it until the evening.

Going to call the post office first thing tomorrow morning, but in the meantime, how did your ocs make it?

The Tenor I got came in a seal bubble wrap packaging. It was very sturdy actually, one of those packagings you can't easily tear open. Everything was very safe inside, and the ocarina was inside of the drawstring bag.

His Potes might be shipped in boxes. I'm not sure though, especially the smaller ones

As far as Hinds go...

As much as I'd love to buy one of their sweet potatoes, they are quite expensive and will take a much better-paying job for me to get one. I can, however, save up for one of their inlines since they're not that expensive :) And they look and sound great too.

Pretty cool. If I got one, I think I would be too concerned about denting my case which in turn is really only there to protect my Hind. Hahaha...

A double sweet potato, made to look just like this single.

Still on the waiting list for it, but if I'm lucky it'll be here by christmas :)

That's going to be a beautiful double. Most of my current ocarinas are rather dark, so I decided I wanted to get something brighter. I ordered my Hind double about 3 months ago, and it will look like this. I spoke with him a few weeks ago and it sounds like he's pretty much done. Can't wait. I'm excited to see yours as well :]

That sure is a beaut.

If you haven't received yours yet then I guess mine will be a while - I put in the order about 1½ month ago. Then again, as they say... good things come to those who wait.

Sigh, I put in my order five months ago and I still don't have it. But I really have my own picky aesthetics to blame, I just want a Honduras rosewood one with even grain... Poop!

I'd believe they are. I recently got an alto from him maybe no more than three weeks ago from him. :) He also mentioned that he was late making mine because he had run out of inlines so he probably made more of those as well.

got to get around to showing some pictures of the ocarina, it's amazing.

I can verify his machines are working, he told me today he is making my Double Inline right now. Yay in 3-6 weeks I'll have a good chance of getting it soon! Then in 10-16weeks I should be close to getting the Custom Tenor I ordered (barring unforeseen delays that will probably happen.)

Whenever I've looked at what I would want (based on looks alone), it's always come down to Grenadilla, Ebony, and Walnut. The two most expensive, and the cheapest.

I really liked H Rosewood and Cocobolo, Bloodwood and Purpleheart are cool too but seem kinda tacky for anything but accents. I decided on Cocobolo because it is very wear resistant and durable, plus it resists moisture extremely well and has a floral scent.

My first ocarina was a Hind inline tenor, and I still love it. However, I just had a custom inline tenor made by Mr. Hind. He was able to modify the thumb holes at my request to increase the range by two semi-tomes. It still has two less semi-tones than my Hind transverse tenor (yes I have 3 tenors....), but has the same range as the mountain ocarina and allows me to play all of the wonderful sheet music Mr. Ahrens has compiled. The transverse ocarina in a work of art and sounds wonderful, but I prefer the feel of inline ocarinas. I could not be happier with either of them.

I think Mr Hind just beat Mr Shih in terms of awesomeness in communication. Mr Shih was quick, always replying in less than a day, but Mr Hind's been consistently answering my questions in about 2 hours.
Talk about awesome-sauce.

Bit of a pity that Macassar Ebony doesn't come in sizes large enough for an Alto though...
Good thing there's still Grenadilla.
