Play what makes you happy. - Achint

I was watching a movie that a friend recommended to me called Goemon, which is kind of an epic, Japanese version of Robin Hood LOL.

During a flashback scene between Goemon and Chacha, some beautiful music starts to play, and about forty seconds in, the melody is played on an ocarina!!

Ha, two weeks later and I'm reading 7Seeds as well and I just got to this point. And then I remembered that someone had mentioned this on TON. Ah, coincidences.

Here's an ocarina in the ninth episode of Mawaru Penguindrum. It's never shown playing but it must've been one of the instruments to be played by the female main character's band as a child.

At least it's pretty accurate in depicting a ocarina. The 7 seeds one was rather uncomfortable to look at.

Well, the pots/bowls they were doing above the ocarina aren't that pretty too. I'm surprised she was even able to make something that makes a sound. >_<

Sorry for reviving an old topic, but I need to know this.

1) Go to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfc1j9eKf04
2) Skip to 6:46

The song that the man on the horse is singing...do I hear ocarinas in the accompaniment? This is probably my all-time favourite movie, made in 1941 (so ocarinas were popular at the time), and I would FLIP if I knew ocarinas were part of the soundtrack :'D

Can't think of anything else that could make that sound except the flute stop on a small organ.

Good ol' anime brings me back to post here. A new anime airing this season, Suisei no Gargantia, has the main character carve an ocarina (with his laser gun, somehow). A kid figures out how to play it in the fourth episode. So far, it has only been called a flute so far. Here's some pictures.

The holes were on the top when the girl played it, so it's probably on the bottom xD
Oh and here's another that was attached to a monster's head in the next episode

About 8 and a half minutes into episode 21 of Nichijou, you can see an ocarina (and a boomerang) on the picnic blanket while Takasaki imagines himself and Sakurai together.

I know, right! I was pretty surprised when I saw it. It was annoying to get the picture though - the site I was using shows an ad when you pause the video, so I had to zoom in to full screen on my iPad, take a screen shot, upload that ENORMOUS picture as my photo on TON, and then post the image link. And I can't remove it from my profile now, or else the link doesn't work. Of course, now that I have it online, I could put it somewhere else and change the link, but... I'm too lazy, so I'll wait until I actually need the photo option for something else. I actually just finished Nichijou today. Though that's it for now - I've decided that I won't be watching any more anime until I get some more work/studying in.

Yesterday, David and I were listening to music on Spotify as we were closing up shop; and David Bowie's Moonage Daydream was playing. Just as we were about to change the track, an ocarina sounding instrument started playing. Actually, there's no mistaking it. It is an ocarina. At least, we think it is.
1:53 Sounds like an ocarina.

Well, sure sounds like it...

Wouldn't be all that surprising, right? I mean, didn't The Troggs use an ocarina in Wild Thing? Maybe it's been featured in more classic rock songs and we just haven't noticed it! :O

I found this ages ago, but never really shared. In the anime Jungle Wa Itsumo Hare Nochi Guu, one of the sad songs that plays in the background is almost definitely an ocarina. I've learned to play the melody by ear, but sadly I get really confused any time I try to write out the background part. I'd do almost anything if someone could make sheet music for it. :( I'd love to play and upload it~

One of the screenshots from the Brave Frontier RPG game for Android shows an item called Ares' Flute, which is depicted as some kind of transverse ocarina.
Spoiler: click to toggle

It seems Ares was a leftie with 6 fingers on each hand.

I've never heard of a metal resonator violin before. I wonder if they really exist?
