Lol, well that was quick ![]() You got a very pretty strawfiring, especially at the mouthpiece making it look like flame. I just ordered a Dolce Focalink Triple from the Taiwanese site. I hope it gets to me quickly

Yeah, that is quite nice around the mouthpiece. A little bit of a lighter chunk on the flat area would be nice though. |

I've ordered a Focalink Double Alto C (non forte) from the taiwanese site (very good customer service, Thanks mr Shih), it tooks 4 day for it to arrive in Italy. Now it's stopped at Milano's gateawy for custom's inspection. Surely i will receive my ocarina next year knowing the time of italian duties inspection.... too bad

If you order direct from Focalink they are stamped Stein. If ordered from songbird, there not. The other difference is if you order from Songbird it has Jap sub-holes. |

I think its just the singles on Songbird that come with the japanese subholes. The doubles and triples retain their Taiwanese subhole heritage

In a good way, Indigo, your double kind of looks like it was once a yellow/cream to me, and then it got covered in blood and the blood dried... It also looks like flames, which you might feel more comfortable having on an instrument. ... Anyway, I think it looks very nice! It's very red! Red like blood!! |

Anyone noticed that they have chemical analysis reports of their lacquered and plastic ocs? You can go Here to view them all. To see them, right-click on where the images should be and select "open in new tab" or whatever it is on your browser. It should open a pdf of the reports. Alternatively, Here is the results page for the lacquered ocs. And Here is the results page for the plastic ocs. |

There's a link on the Focalink page, labeled "Ocarinas SGS Test Reports", but all the pictures are broken. Some of the broken pics are captioned "plastic ocarinas - A/B/C". Anyone know anything about the mystery pics located here? I'm sorry you didnt get your custom job, Sigurthr, but I'm hoping that production lanes are full because they've started on the plastic altos. I like the Taiwanese subhole style, and all the plastic altos out there seem to use the Japanese style... with one rather unpopular exception (koff, STL's TNG, koff). I've been looking forward to plastic FocAltos for some time. Edited for less "duh" I didn't realize those were the links to the chemical analysis reports. I thought they might be prototype results. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Edited by Nimue, Mar 28 2010, 03:21 PM.

Thats not true, there is a TNG one which utilises the Taiwanese subhole style. However I don't feel able to buy off STL. But yes, there is one with that style. |

Yup. That's the one I mentioned. I have it, and in truth, it doesn't sound too bad. But STL rather feel like the Wal-Mart of ocarinas to me, so I can empathize with not wanting to throw any $ at them. That's why I am so excited about Focalink giving them some competition in that department. When looking for a plastic alto I had nowhere else to go...

I finally got my Focalink (plastic) 12 hole Ocarina and...Spoiler: click to toggle It is one of the BEST instruments I have ever played in my life. I have been playing it non-stop throughout the weekend and I have already figured out how to play songs I already know. When I play it, I forget it is a plastic ocarina. It is soooo cute with its high pitched bird-like sounds. I LOVE IT. Seriously, this Ocarina may be plastic but it is NO toy whatsoever. If anyone is thinking of getting a Focalink plastic, it is NO TOY! It is a serious musical instrument It is so much fun to play! The best thing about it is that it has no shrills and it is not airy at the higher notes. If this plastic ocarina is so good, I can almost imagine the quality of the clay Ocarinas from Focalink! Sub-holes rock! They extend my range a bit more from the 10 hole Ocarina I have. Oh Focalink, you are so awesome!! (Im officially becoming a focalink fan!) |

What I saw in my mind when I clicked on your spoiler. Oh, Molly Shannon. I love mine, too. Great little pocket oc. Focalink is a great company. When I asked (weeks ago) about the plastic altos, Mr. Shih explained they were still in development and would not be released until the quality was satisfactory. Imagine... releasing a quality product instead of something sub-standard which has to be tinkered with, but not before there's a long line of crabby, dissatisfied customers who feel cheated and manipulated. Focalink has class. |

That video made me laugh I admire Mr. Shih for his work and determination, especially how you mentioned that focalink is trying to bring the alto plastic ocarina to a satisfactory, good quality level. I might even get an alto plastic when it comes out. Knowing the awesome quality of the soprano plastic, I can definitely expect something awesome from the alto. (I hope they will sell them as well at songbird ocarina. If not, I might just have to purchase it from Focalink directly ^_^) |

Yeah. I agree, I'll have to check out that Alto when it comes out. I've been playing my Soprano non-stop since I got it, and the rest of the household is getting driven batty with the high-pitched notes. xD Wonder if they'll go with all 4 though for the plastics? Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass? |

Yes, that's the answer I received today (and, coming from Mr. Shih, in a very polite manner). Well, too bad - my daughter was so looking forward to the custom-painted alto. But, of course, I am happy for Focalink that demand is so big, and that the production lines are busy... |

I am very tempted to get a Focalink double in the future. It's just calling out to me. I am very fine and happy with single chamber Ocarinas ( ) and I already have a flute that is capable of playing up to 3 octaves..but because it is an ocarina, I want to try something new. Even if they do come out with plastic versions, I hope they are as good as the soprano. But knowing it is Focalink, we know what to expect ^_^ Im sorry but I cannot get tired of saying it..I love my plastic focalink soprano C. I hope other people who are thinking of getting a plastic ocarina will not think that this is just some cheap toy. |

Anyone know how long shipping from Focalink to US usually takes? I heard about 2 days and that "it is faster than from songbird" but, it has already been 4 days, and songbird shipping only took 36hours for me. |

I live in Europe, but I think the shipping normally takes about 2-5days in general. I think a lot depends on when your plain flies etc. Of course your ocarina can always get stuck at the customs inspections. I don't know how much they inspect packages in the USA, but here in Europe you got it quite easily, and it may take a while before you get your package then. My previous order took almost 3weeks because of the customs inspections, and I had to pay extra when I finally received it.

I got lucky !! I bought a focalink, alto C, handpainted, of our local `ebay`-site !! And I love the sound !! It`s much different from the other ocarina`s I own. ( Mountain ocarina`s and pendants ) More easy to play, no problems with high or low notes, except for getting used to holding the oc on the highest notes. . . . And I payed less than half the price of a new one . . . |
