UPDATE: April 27th 2009

Is this site really new or did I just miss it in my past searching?

http://langleyocarinas.com/

On-line shop looks nice. You can choose design, unlike some resellers.
Nicely photographed to see detail in coloring. Simple and lovely web design.
Includes informational resources, a bio, and a selection of example videos.

Youtube channel: Songstone. I subscribed.

OLD POST:

John Langley is an underpublicized maker,
who dazzled my parents in the 70's with his wonderful wind instruments.

You can buy his ocarinas at The Ocarina Workshop.
All of the ceramic and duet types are made by him.
Other models, including the famous Songstones, can be purchased at Earth Vibe Music.
I've also seen these in music shops in several locations, and on-line.

The Ocarina Workshop's photos do not do justice to the beauty of the glazing.
I was WOWed by Dunster's Collection of Langley ocarinas.

Hehe, its pretty ironic how the only video of me playing it was a response to your video. I didn't even know that was you until now :)

Hopefully there is only one Moonsyne out there.

I finally bought one myself and made a text review.
I haven't mastered it like my Songbird, but I do love it.

Hello.
I have an Alto D (6 holes) from John Langley, bought from The Ocarina Workshop. It's very pretty and nicely tuned.
From what I've been told by David Liggins, Songstones aren't tuned to concert pitch.

I also came across it very recently. I believe it's new, since I googled "John Langley" some time ago and that website didn't pop up. He sells his ocarinas directly through there, which makes them considerably cheaper than through The Ocarina Workshop. TOW has excellent customer service, though. I don't know about John Langley himself, since I've never ordered anything directly from him.

I didn't know about this site. Thanks, Moonsyne!

It appears that there is only one size of the doubles on his site. :? I remember several years ago that he had a whole lot more pattern options on the songstones. There are only 6 now, :( and no Pregnaphone, either. Perhaps they will be added later.

Didn't the songstones used to come in different colours? I remember seeing something a long time ago, like a site (though I don't remember it) with different colours, at least blue and green... Of course that was years ago so maybe I'm just not remembering right... (and ya I know there's a songstone that's changed to green for a wallpaper but that's not what I'm thinking of)

You must be referring to The Ocarina Workshop, a reseller. They display more varity in double ocarinas. Also, their customer support is excellent.

EDIT: Forget that, they don't sell his songstones. I misunderstood. They do sell ocarinas in various colors, but those are plastic ones...

Tomorrow I will be placing an order with Mr. Langley for one of his Bass G ocarinas. I e-mailed him just now and asked him if he ever takes orders for custom glazing. I really want one in light pink. if not, that's ok though.
I dreamed last night that it was already here and I was playing it. It sounded really nice!! In my dream though, one of the holes was so large that I needed 3 fingers to completely cover it, haha.

Quite an odd dream there, ja?

I myself placed an order for his Songstone back on Friday, and the Paypal transfer went through on Monday. So I'll be looking for it in my mailbox at the end of the week. :)

update: 11/11/09...ocarina hasn't arrived yet. But I'll be checking on Thursday and Friday to see if it arrives

Viperdvman....Has your ocarina arrived yet, and have you had any communication at all with Mr. Langley?
I ordered my oc Thursday, Nov 5th, the paypal transaction cleared immediately. I e-mailed him twice before the purchase with no response, and I have had no communication whatsoever from him. I e-mailed him again today just to see whether he actually sent the ocarina out. I am not very pleased that I bought a hundred dollar item from him (in U.S. dollars) and am being completely ignored. :(

I haven't tried to e-mail him yet. But I will be checking my mailbox on Friday before I go to work. That would've been 2 weeks since my order, and less than 2 weeks since my order and just less than 2 weeks since the PayPal cleared. If it's not there, I'll give Mr. Langley a buzz. But it would be the weekend, so I wouldn't expect a response until Monday.

Thanks for the input. Never having purchased something like this overseas, and getting no response, I am just a little paranoid. I would like to at least hear, yes, we received your payment, have shipped your item on such and such a date, thanks. Silence is not golden when it comes to customer service and he still hasn't responded!

Well, I don't have a long distance carrier, so it would cost me like 30 dollars a minute to call him. Surely he receives e-mails? (although he hasn't responded)

From his website, it seems like he doesn't.

I just want to order the little songbird. It would be nice if no shipping fees are required.

There are no shipping charges.
I finally got ahold of him today!!! It seems that he jst got back from London, which would explain why he was silent for so long. He was extremely cordial and now I feel completely confident about receiving my ocarina in the near future.. YAY!

He was very cordial with me too when I e-mailed him last week. I've heard great things about both him and his service to his customers. He really seems like a pretty cool guy :)

I'll be checking my box before Thanksgiving to see if it's come in yet... I know it's coming from England. I'm so excited.

I got my great bass ocarina today!! :jumpy:
The tone is crystal clear and smooth. It has far surpassed my expectations. It was worth the wait!
Having purchased it and hearing how it sounds, I would tell anyone not to spend 3,4 or 500 dollars on a bass ocarina. This one is only 60 British pounds, and I can't imagine that any bass ocarina anywhere could sound better than this. I will try to post a review in the near future.

oooh, congratulations. I really wanted one of those as well, but I was afraid it would be hard to learn to play things on. Post a review so we can learn more about it, it is a lovely instrument!
