I've never had to pay taxes on any of the ocarinas I've ordered... Not Maparam, STL, Dragon, or Songbird... Maybe the taxes on Maparams only apply to local buyers? Like some sort of law-type thing? /clueless |

Not sure, I wouldn't think so. I believe it's safe to buy from Focalink and not worry about taxes most places. |

I don't really know the answer to that. That would probably be a question for Sam (Kissing), because if he doesn't know, then he can always ask Minsoo Kim, and since they both know Korean, it works out a bit faster. Okay, so I finally got the email about my Maparams being shipped only yesterday and they're already in Los Angeles, California! And Californians could care less about bombs in the packages since they're worried about breaking off the US, so I doubt they'll stay in security much longer. I'll probably get them by this weekend. *squee* Edited by Foxxy Rin, Aug 28 2008, 09:42 PM.

this is about the tax thing but in some countrys you don't have to pay shipping or tax. like when I got my maparam from 10holes when I was in Japan you don't have to pay shipping |

Hmm, I don't suppose the folks at Maparam would be open to the idea of experimenting with a wooden sweet pote double? I've got a sudden hankering for one and wonder how much of my limbs I would need to sell off. Kissing? |

I just read on Maparam's Korean site that if you ever break or damage a Maparam ocarina - send the broken ocarina back to him. Then you can replace your Maparam with 30% discount. If you wish to buy an ocarina of a different key, you get 30% of the price of the ocarina you broke off its price.

I understand the sending back, getting 30% off but i dont understand what If you wish to buy an ocarina of a different key, you get 30% of the price of the ocarina you broke off its price. Does that mean if I broke a double C, i could buy a double G for 30% off? |

It means that the discount is 30% of the price of the ocarina you broke, not the ocarina you're buying. that's how I understood it anyway. |

I'm sure he wouldn't mind at all. As long as it's a Maparam being sent in, he'll provide the service; no questions asked. He's probably sold enough ocarinas internationally not to remember every single customer anyway ![]()
If you broke a Double C, you get 30% of the cost of the Double C off your new one. I found this on the Korean section of the Maparam website. I'm not sure how he'll implement it for international customers. But if such an incident occurs, emails will be able to sort it out ![]() |

I decided that I want to get the Maparam Triple! My parents agreed to get it for me if I pay part of the cost. My sisters might also pitch in so I can get it for Christmas. |

Cool. If I ever get a triple, it will most likely be a Maparam. I like my focalink and I'm sure I'll really love my focalink double but I think that a focalink triple would probably be a bit too heavy for my liking. |

my Maparam alto c came a month ago and I think it is a very fine ocarina. It took me a week to get the breathing down on this one and it usually takes me just a few hours to a day with others but its worth the trouble. I need to get other ocarinas to compare. I broke my wpn in half to see what was inside and found out that it is made of ceramic not clay. I mean if it is clay it shares a striking resemblance to what a broken ceramic dinner plate looks like. |

Clay is a ceramic material. Ceramics is simply materials that are formed by heat. Ceramics are not always clay, but I think it's safe to say that a WPN ocarina is made of clay. So saying that it's made of clay is in fact a correct statement. But saying it's ceramic just means it's been formed by heat. That's how I understand it anyway. Oh I didn't know that. Well I guess what I meant to say it looks like its made from the same material as ceramic food dishes. It was also quite smooth in the inside not rough like a Maparam. |

Clay and Ceramic are often interchangeable terms, I think. Using the dictionary, I get:
So I guess its kinda like saying "That chair is made of wood" as opposed to "That chair is made of plant cell walls" or something ![]() Albeit, WPN and Maparam are made from different kinds of clays. Edited by kissing, Dec 18 2008, 09:37 AM.

Well going back to Maparam does any one know what minsoo uses to heat his ocarinas and what kind of glaze. To me the ocarina smell very unfamiliar but it is no problem. Just wanted to know. |

My mom just ordered a maparam triple a hour or two ago and I'm so excited! I can't wait for it to come! though it probably won't get here until after Christmas... oh well it's so exciting anyhow! I've wanted it ever since I've saw Willy play Hungarian dance No. 5 rock version! I feel it's awesome that he makes his ocarina's himself and doesn't mass produce it! also this means that I'll finally have an ocarina that has good sub-holes!

Nice. Now the songs of the world will open up to you! I doubt I'll ever get a triple, I think a double is probably the most range I'll need but those maparam triples sure are awesome. |

If I get a triple it will be a Maparam. I would like to have both a Focalink and Maparam; I've got a Focalink double right now. That will probably be at least a year or so in the future through. |

Just got my Maparam triple yesterday, and I already love it! The high notes are a little piercing in my closed room, but it's nicer in a wider area. I love having the higher range, and hopefully the chamber switching will get easier as I play more (it's already better after an hour or so of messing around on it). However, I do have a question. I already got an Alto-C from Maparam a while ago, and I wanted to leave a comment on the forums, but the entry fields were in Korean (I think), and it wouldn't let me sign up, so I couldn't. Could anyone help me leave a comment on his forums, because I really would like to, and Mr. Kim certainly deserves it! Thanks in advance! |

Hehe, the Maparam Triple is my favourite ocarina. I'm glad to hear you're having fun with it ![]() The "forum" in the Maparam English site? http://www.maparam.kr/zboard.php?id=community It's a bit weird system they have there. You don't need to register. Just click the "Write" tab near the bottom somewhere. Fill in the Name, Password, E-mail, Homepage, Subject fields and write your message. Then click the "Write" tab. |

I like the Maparam looks, but I don't feel like acute bending on an AC to make high notes sound right. Plus they're expensive. So I might get a Triple AC from Maparam if I do get a triple. But I've never tried to play a song I needed a triple for. I'd rather have a Hind Alto C, or a Spencer, or, dare I say, a Panch. |

lol, all I can say to you is that you won't know 'til you've tried one. As with using "Acute Bend" - The Maparam ocarinas are probably not that much different from Focalinks in terms of requiring Acute Bend It's not a problem at all
